James Gunn responds to HBO Max’s claim that the Green Lantern series has been canceled

James Gunn opens up about the fate of HBO Max Green lantern Series that has been in development for years.

After a release said the show had been canceled and would not be continued, DC Studios’ new co-head blasted the rumor, calling it “false.”

That Green lantern Series has been in development since 2019 Arrow Producer Greg Berlanti behind the project. In October of that year, it was reported that the show’s focus had shifted. The series was originally intended to focus on Guy Gardner and Alan Scott, starring Finn Wittrock and Jeremy Irvine respectively. However, the focus will be on John Stewart, one of DC’s first black superheroes and one of the longest serving Green Lanterns.

Green lantern is confirmed to be in development along with 2019 Strange Adventures. Berlanti praised the DC properties as creations for the streaming platform “unlike anything seen on TV.”

“An anthology series of cautionary tales set in a world where superpowers exist, and probably our biggest DC show ever, we’re going into space with a Green Lantern TV series, but that’s all I can say . not yet,” Berlanti said at the time.

It was announced in August Strange Adventures would not advance to the streamer. Throughout 2022, HBO Max and DC have seen many changes as the merger with Warner Bros. Discovery continues and new DC Studios co-heads Gunn and Peter Safran plan a new era for the DC Universe.
