So much for the beloved and Everyone unpredictable Victor Kiriakis: John Aniston’s final episode of days of our lives fell on Peacock today.
DOOL announced before Christmas that on December 26 it will pay tribute to Aniston, the veteran soap actor best known for his 30+ year tenure as the soap’s crime boss and in his personal life as Jennifer Aniston’s father.
He died on November 11 at the age of 89.
As was typical of his character, Aniston’s final scenes as Victor were filled with both anger and comic relief. Entertaining the idea of his cousin Sonny (Zach Tinker) inviting his ex-husband Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart) to the Kiriaki household over the holidays, Victor threatened to throw the cute Cad “up your sugarplum hole.” He then scolded Leo for “carrying baby jam around the house.” (They were actually holiday pajamas, but try not to tell Victor that).
In the end, Victor forgives Sonny for inviting the “man who blackmailed you into your marriage,” not to mention drugging Sonny and selling compromising photos of him to the tabloids. Victor believed Sonny when he said that he and Leo were now friends and allowed the baby-jam-carrying Leo to stay. Even old gangsters can forgive and forget!
at the end of the episode, DOOL featured a montage of past Aniston clips, including scenes from his marriages (boy, were there a lot), some of his funnier moments, including a spit shot, and a minute of his character contemplating a good life. “Age mellows you,” say his characters. “In the end, it’s family that counts.”
The last frame of the episode shows Victor sitting on his yacht called (what else?) Winner.
Aniston agreed days of our lives in 1985. He was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2022 Daytime Emmys. He is survived by daughter Jennifer Aniston, son Alexander, and wife Sherry Rooney.
