Kate Hudson and Jamie Lee Curtis are the latest Hollywood actors to speak out on the topic of the “fake baby”, a topic revived by a cover story in a New York magazine (and many others devoted to ) have become phenomena this month of the children of famous actors following in the footsteps of their parents.
The article features a cover photo of several actors in onesies, including Zoë Kravitz, Lily Rose-Depp, Maude Apatow, and Maya Hawke.
Curtis, the offspring of Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh (which makes her an “OG Nepo baby,” she says), said in an Instagram post that the current conversation is “solely intended to try to downplay and to humiliate and offend”. She added: “For the record, I’ve spent 44 years surfing with the benefits that my connected and mirrored fame has brought me. I don’t pretend like there’s nothing and try to tell myself I’m worth nothing.”
The actress, who has been working since she was 19, continued: “I’ve fit in and shown myself in all kinds of work with thousands upon thousands of people, and every day I’ve tried to bring integrity, professionalism, love to the community and art. for my work.”
Hudson, the daughter of Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson of the Hudson Brothers, also practiced rejecting the term from the British Independent Saturday that “I really don’t care.”
“When I look at my kids, we are a family of storytellers,” she said. “It’s definitely in our blood. People can call it what they want, but it won’t change anything.”
She added, “I see it a lot more in business than in Hollywood. Sometimes I’ve been in business meetings where I’m like, wait, whose kid is this? How, this person doesn’t know anything!
Others chimed in too, perhaps most deftly from Eve Hewson, the daughter of U2 frontman Bono, whose credits include starring opposite Clive Owen in the Steven Soderbergh series. the twistk and the current Apple TV+ range bad sisters. She complained that she was not on the magazine’s list, tweet that she will “get Nepo Baby tattooed on my ass” and that her goals for 2023 are to “be successful enough to be recognized as Nepo Baby”.
On Saturday she became a little more serious.
“For those of you who have just adjusted to my existence, I get asked a lot about my privilege,” she wrote. “And I always wanted to say how much my father’s name helped me become an actor. I am infinitely grateful for the opportunities I have had in my life.
“I decided to make a few jokes about it this round. Please don’t take my tweets too seriously. I just have goosebumps. And when I can’t laugh at myself… then I really am a privileged cunt.”
