The countdown to Christmas has now begun – with today being the first day of the Christmas season.
With December around the corner, many families in the UK have started looking for decorations to dress up the hallways and liven up their trees.
Although the nights are now getting darker and some local light switches are off due to the energy crisis, London has never looked brighter.
Dazzling displays of light can be seen across the city as thousands flock to the capital for gifts, the winter wonderland and the iconic tree in Trafalgar Square.
And thanks to a New York photographer, this illumination can now be seen from a bird’s eye view from the cockpit of a helicopter.

Trafalgar Square’s famous tree will be lit later today – an annual donation to the British people as a thank you from Norway for supporting the Second World War.

The busy streets are a reminder of how different Christmas was last year for people in the UK, given the self-isolation rules in place over Christmas 2021.
Last year it was also reported that nearly 900,000 people may have been forced to self-isolate on Christmas Day after contracting Covid in the past 10 days.
