An American woman living in France has warned people traveling to Paris to beware of the “clear cup” scam spreading on the streets.
Amanda Rollins moved from Massachusetts to Paris six years ago and has never looked back.
Since leaving the United States, the 34-year-old has been giving her more than 912,000 TikTok followers tips on visiting or living in France.
Recently, the American-turned-Parisian urged tourists to be careful when exploring the City of Light as homeless people become “aggressive” in one of the “most common scams.”

She captioned the viral video, which has so far garnered more than 28.2 million views: “Clarifying the Paris Scam.” These guys are here every day and are constantly watched by the police.
“They can get aggressive with you, so if that ever happens to you, just move on.”
At the start of the clip, she said, “This is one of the most common scams you’ll come across in Paris: the Clear Cup scam.”
Amanda then showed a video of the plan being implemented.
A clear cup scam occurs when a homeless person puts a few coins in a clear cup and places it in the middle of the sidewalk far in front of him.
They do this so that people can knock over the cup and their guilt will then make them give money to the homeless man.
“They put it very far away in high traffic areas because they know people are likely to push it over,” she explained.
“These guys are here every day and when the police see them they take away their mugs and their things and tell them to get out of here because they know what they are doing is dishonest and a fraud.”
She showed the scam in action and explained that the clear cup scam involved a homeless man putting some coins in a clear cup and setting it down far in front of him.

She further explained that tourists become aggressive and “scream” when they knock over the cup and don’t give them money.
Amanda noted that one of her followers even shared that she knocked over a cup but didn’t put any money in it, prompting the homeless man to spit on her.
At the end of the clip, she said, “When you’re here in Paris to flip the trophy, don’t feel obligated to give money unless you want to, and if they start getting rough with you, just walk away.” . ‘

One person said: “I knew about this scam in Paris but saw some older American ladies fall for it. “It was sad.”
