‘Like Real Tetris’: Time-lapse TikTok videos of airport workers reveal that stacking bags in a plane’s hold is hypnotically similar to the famously addictive puzzle game

The task of loading luggage into the belly of a passenger plane is “like the real Tetris”, the famously addictive puzzle game in which players carefully move shapes into different compartments to avoid stacking them.

That’s according to Vancouver International Airport ramp agent “DJ Sugue,” whose time-lapse TikTok videos of him loading a plane’s cargo hold prove the point in intriguing style.

He loads luggage and cargo onto planes including Boeing 737 and Airbus A220, and his videos have earned him 622,000 TikTok followers and 32 million likes to date.

He notes that carrying luggage keeps you in shape, but often films himself doing push-ups and crunches in the hold to keep fit.

Sugue often films herself doing workouts—push-ups and crunches—in the cargo hold. He admits that one “gets used to” the cramped conditions.

When a TikTok user said his claustrophobia prevented him from working in the confined space, Sugue explained that cramped conditions “take some getting used to.”

A viral video shared by Sugue this month showing him loading bags onto a Boeing 737 has been viewed more than 837,000 times.

In the clip, a mobile conveyor called the “Disaster-Snake” is laid out in the hold, transporting the bags from the door to the back of the plane, where Sugue carefully stacks them.

Another recent clip shows him unloading a plane with the ramp hose and performing the same moves in reverse.

Generally, it takes 20 to 30 minutes to load and about 15 to 20 minutes to unload, he says.

To date, Sugue has 622,000 TikTok followers and his videos have received a total of 32 million likes

He reveals that trolley cases are his favorite bags to load up because he can easily slide them into the back of the plane. He meanwhile described heavy bags on two wheels as “the worst thing” to maneuver in the hold.

In a previous video, he explained that he started working at the airport to take advantage of the standby tickets offered to airport staff. Now he is allowed to travel every other month, he reveals. He recently spent seven days in Australia thanks to standby tickets.

Sugue doesn’t just load luggage onto the plane. As part of his role as a platform agent, he also helps push and tow aircraft back, among other things.
