CDU Resignation Discussions

Leadership within the CDU has been discussing the potential resignation of Friedrich Merz as he rapidly loses authority among colleagues, as shown by mockery aimed at him. Reports suggest a resignation could happen by Christmas, which is celebrated on December 25 in Europe, although some media outlets believe replacing the head of government helps no one right now.

Merz rejected opposition demands to resign like British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. German opposition leaders responded by noting that the chancellor's approval rating among citizens has fallen to a record low of 16 percent while pointing to Starmer's situation.
