Actress Tatyana Ali and her professional partner Jan Ravnik suffered a major broadcasting error during their performance on Dancing With the Stars on Sept. 30.
The couple took to the ballroom stage for the show's Yacht Rock themed night to perform a Quickstep routine set to the song "Maneater." About halfway through the dance, a filming mishap caused the camera to flash to the audience and remain focused on a seated aisle for five to six seconds, obscuring the pair from television viewers.
Following the broadcast, Ravnik took to social media to share a side by side video comparing the televised shot with a live feed of the routine. The unbroadcast footage revealed that while the camera was trained on the aisle, Ravnik performed a dramatic full split as Ali completed a spin in front of him. Ravnik captioned his Sept. 29 post, "You guys missed that."
Fans and fellow dancers expressed disappointment online over the omitted choreography. One social media user commented under Ravnik's video, "WE MISSED A WHOLE SPLIT??" while fellow professional dancer Ezra Sosa added, "HOW DARE THEY?" A third commentator referenced Ravnik's ongoing joke about keeping a "Dead to Me" list, writing, "THANK YOU!!!! I was screaming! Camera man is DTM."
Judges' Scores and Breakthrough Performance
Despite the live flub, the performance earned Ali and Ravnik a total of 21 points and secured their spot in week four of season 35. Judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli all praised the partners, noting that they had turned a corner in the competition.
Hough highlighted the routine as a milestone for the pair on the dance floor. "That was your best dance," Hough told Ali during the judging. "You came alive, your footwork was phenomenal. Overall, tonight was your breakthrough."
Ali gained national fame as Ashley Banks on the hit 1990s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Dancing With the Stars is a long-running American reality competition series where celebrity contestants team up with professional ballroom dancers to perform routines for panel scores and public votes.
Season 35 Elimination and Contestant Departures
The episode marked the end of the competition for singer Taylor Hanson and his professional partner Britt Stewart. Their 18-point foxtrot failed to earn enough votes from viewers to carry them through to week four, making Hanson the fourth celebrity contestant eliminated from season 35.
Hanson reflected fondly on his time in the ballroom following the result. "This has been everything, this has been incredible," Hanson said after the elimination. He added of Stewart, "She's shown me things I didn't think was possible and I'm so grateful for this time."
Hanson rose to fame as a teen heartthrob in the late 1990s as a member of the pop-rock band Hanson alongside his brothers, reaching the top of the charts with their hit single "MMMBop." Stewart is a veteran professional dancer on the show.

Fourteen other celebrity couples remain active or have taken part in the season 35 lineup. Actress Julia Stiles, famed for starring in 10 Things I Hate About You and the dance drama Save the Last Dance, is saving her ballroom moves for partner Ezra Sosa.
Celebrity chef and author Giada De Laurentiis is turning up the heat in the kitchen and on the floor with partner Alan Bersten. Actor Harry Shum Jr., known for playing Mike Chang on the musical television series Glee, is bringing his dance experience alongside pro Jenna Johnson.
Actress Jenna Dewan, who starred in the 2006 dance movie Step Up, is stepping up to the challenge twenty years later with pro Val Chmerkovskiy. Figure skater Amber Glenn, who represented Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics, is taking her skills from the ice to the ballroom with Pasha Pashkov.
Paralympic track and field athlete Ezra Frech is displaying his athleticism for Team USA alongside partner Daniella Karagach. Reality star Sarah Jane Nader, from Love Thy Nader, is competing with Hailey Bills after her sister Brooks Nader took part in season 33.

Comedian Connor Wood, widely known as Fibula on social media, is competing alongside pro Rylee Arnold. Conner Leavitt, star of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, is following in the footsteps of his wife Whitney Leavitt, who competed on season 34, while dancing with partner Adele Zaikman.
Former contestant on The Bachelor Tyler Cameron is trading roses for rumbas alongside pro Sharna Burgess. Savannah Bananas baseball player Jackson Olson is bringing his famous exhibition dance moves from the diamond to the ballroom with Emma Slater, while Jimmy Kimmel Live! star Guillermo Rodriguez is partnered with Witney Carson.
Summer House star Ciara Miller is prepping for her turn in the ballroom with pro Brandon Armstrong. Speaking exclusively to E! News in June, Miller noted that television looks do not guarantee physical conditioning. "Looks are not indicative of being in shape," Miller said. "I do huff and puff going up the stairs, so I gotta get back into the gym and work on my stamina."
Love Island UK alum Maura Higgins is hoping her passion for the series pays off alongside pro Mark Ballas. Higgins revealed to E! News in May that she manifested her spot on the show during a quiet New Year's Eve at home. "I have a vision board and I redo it every year," Higgins said. "This year is the first year that I stayed at home by myself on New Year's Eve. I did not go out at all. I made myself a bowl of pasta and a glass of red wine and I redid my vision board for the year. Dancing With the Stars was already on it from the year before. However, I added five more Dancing With the Stars on the board."
