American actress Susan Sarandon will receive an honorary award at the 21st Rome Film Festival during its independent sidebar section, Alice in the City.
The Oscar-winning star will be presented with the Womenlands Excellence Award, an honor dedicated to prominent figures in culture, entertainment, and social activism.
In addition to the tribute, the festival will host the international premiere of The Accompanist, an independent drama that stars Sarandon and marks the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Zach Woods.
Sarandon plays Sylvia, a chain-smoking woman with caustic humor who becomes a first-time foster mother to a dynamic eight-year-old girl named Emily. The comedy-drama previously made its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York in June.

Official statements from festival organizers noted that Sarandon has built a career spanning several decades, creating a series of female characters that cannot be confined to a single model.

Sarandon won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in the 1995 drama Dead Man Walking, following earlier Oscar nominations for films such as Thelma & Louise. Sarandon recently attended the Venice International Film Festival for the screening of The Echo Chamber, a drama directed by Italian filmmaker Andrea Pallaoro. Speaking at a press conference during the festival, she stated that Hollywood continues to sideline her because of her public support for Palestine.
The Womenlands Excellence Award has previously recognized other international film figures. Past recipients of the honor include Spanish actress Paz Vega, German actress Nastassja Kinski, and Italian director Laura Luchetti.
The 21st Rome Film Festival will take place in the Italian capital from October 13 to October 25. Alice in the City will run alongside the main event as an independent section dedicated to youth cinema, family stories, and emerging filmmaking talent.
