Peruvian actress Stephanie Cayo has revealed that her connection with Spanish singer-songwriter Alejandro Sanz began years before her 2018 wedding to American businessman Chad Campbell.
In an interview with Spanish celebrity magazine HOLA!, Cayo stated that she and Sanz knew each other long before her first marriage, gradually building a close friendship that eventually turned into a romance.
The revelation came shortly after Cayo returned from a summer holiday in Mallorca with Sanz and his children. Addressing their relationship history, the actress explained that their initial acquaintance evolved over a long period into a respectful and beautiful friendship before becoming romantic.
Cayo said she had always admired Sanz's work as an artist and later came to know him on a personal level. She emphasized that the entire process occurred naturally and calmly over a long period, grounded in mutual respect, leading up to the public confirmation of their relationship in early 2026.
A Relationship Built Over Time
Cayo, the youngest of Peru's well-known Cayo sisters, built a successful acting career in television and film across Latin America and Spain. Sanz, the Spanish musician famous for hit ballads such as Corazon Partio, is one of Latin music's most celebrated artists.
According to Cayo, their bond took years to develop from their initial meeting into a formal relationship. She noted that their connection started long before her previous marriage, though the two were initially just acquaintances before cultivating a deeper personal connection.
Past Marriage to Chad Campbell
Cayo married Campbell in 2018 at the age of 29 in a grand religious ceremony held in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, following a romance that originally began in New York. The marriage ended in divorce in 2021 after three years together.
Five years after her divorce from Campbell, Cayo and Sanz publicly confirmed their relationship in early 2026. Despite the end of her marriage, Cayo disclosed that she maintains a warm and active line of communication with her former husband.
She shared that she and Campbell still talk regularly on the phone, updating one another on their personal lives, including Campbell's current girlfriend. Cayo added that the former couple retain immense affection for each other.
