Greek television contestant Stavros Floros has filed a lawsuit seeking more than $100 million from the producers of Survivor Greece following a severe boating accident.
The legal action comes several months after Floros suffered a life-altering injury in which his left leg was amputated after being struck by the propeller of a tourist boat. The incident took place in the Dominican Republic, a Caribbean island nation where the reality television show was being filmed on location.
Floros was in the open sea spearfishing when the vessel collided with him. Beyond losing his left leg, he sustained a severe injury to his right ankle during the impact.
According to court documents cited by entertainment news outlet TMZ, Floros claims he survived only because an unknown individual aboard the tourist boat immediately applied an emergency tourniquet to constrict blood vessels and stop life-threatening blood loss.
Survivor Greece is a reality competition show in which contestants are challenged to survive in remote environments. In his lawsuit, Floros argues that production management incorporated underwater spearfishing directly into the daily living conditions for contestants, forcing participants into open marine waters with active tourist boat traffic.
Allegations of safety failures at sea
Court filings state that producers failed to put mandatory safety protections in place. Floros alleges there were no safety boats deployed to monitor contestants, no demarcated swimming areas established, and no warning signs posted for approaching watercraft.
The lawsuit further claims that production was aware of prior hazards in the area. According to the court records, dangerous boat approaches had occurred in the same stretch of water previously, and at least one prior fatality had been recorded at the site.
The legal claims outlined in the court documents represent allegations made as part of the lawsuit, which will be formally examined during upcoming court proceedings.
Hospitalisation in Miami and return to Greece
Following initial emergency treatment, Floros was transferred to the United States for specialized medical care. He was admitted to a hospital in Miami, Florida, a major regional center for complex trauma care. In Miami, he underwent a series of surgical procedures and remained hospitalized for a total of 61 days.
Floros spent approximately two months total in the United States undergoing treatment and physical rehabilitation before returning home to Greece in July 2026.
The accident disrupted the broadcast schedule of Survivor Greece. Television transmissions were temporarily halted, and producers brought the season to an early conclusion ahead of its original schedule.
Despite the early end to the competition, Floros was named the winner of the season and received the main cash prize of 250,000 euros.
Floros is now seeking compensation exceeding 100 million dollars through his legal claim, contending that the show failed to provide adequate protection for contestants facing hazardous marine conditions.
