Sony Pictures has released the official trailer for O Outro Lado das Redes, the upcoming feature film sequel to the 2010 biographical drama The Social Network. The studio unveiled the teaser on Friday afternoon, offering the public its first look at the cinematic project centered on the internal disclosures that exposed the inner workings of Facebook.
The new film stars Mikey Madison as former Facebook employee Frances Haugen and Jeremy Allen White as investigative journalist Jeff Horwitz. According to the movie synopsis, the plot follows their combined efforts to reveal internal corporate documents during a particularly turbulent period for the technology company.
The Facebook Files investigation
Those internal revelations subsequently gave rise to the landmark investigative report known as the Facebook Files, which was published by The Wall Street Journal in 2021. The exposed internal documents highlighted deep concerns within the company over how its digital platform affected the mental health of teenagers, as well as high levels of platform misinformation and content related to political violence.
The narrative returns to the backstage operations of Facebook, the social network founded in mid-2004 by Mark Zuckerberg. As a former product manager at the company, Haugen copied thousands of pages of internal research before resigning, providing the files to press outlets and government regulatory bodies to draw attention to internal corporate practices.
Cast and production details
Aaron Sorkin, who wrote the original screenplay for the 2010 film, returns to helm the project as director for the sequel. Sony Pictures has not yet announced an official release date for the movie to debut in cinemas worldwide.
The project features an ensemble cast led by White and Madison. Jeremy Strong, recognized for his starring role in the television series Succession as well as the film O Casamento do Meu Ex, joins the production alongside Billy Magnussen, who appeared in Lilo and Stitch and O Reencontro da Turma. White previously gained recognition for his performances in the television series The Bear and Shameless, while Madison recently starred in the feature films Anora and Scream.

The original 2010 movie depicted the early founding of Facebook and became a major commercial and critical success around the world. The film went on to win three Academy Awards, taking home Oscar statuettes for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, and Best Editing.
Following the release of the initial trailer on Friday, Sony Pictures has not yet announced when the movie will arrive in theaters. The studio has begun its promotional campaign as audiences await formal scheduling for the theatrical premiere of O Outro Lado das Redes.
