Skyscanner has released a Top 10 list of September travel destinations aimed at holidaymakers seeking authentic trips away from the crowds, according to a survey by the travel app and OnePoll.
The survey, conducted among 1,000 respondents in France, found that 46% of French people plan off-season holidays to enjoy a more intimate, warmer atmosphere. It also found that 47% of respondents said they deliberately choose calm, unspoiled destinations to make the most of their stay.
A desire for secret places
The survey found that 75% of respondents want to visit a secret place that none of their friends or family have been to. Younger generations were the most drawn to discovery, with the desire inspiring 90% of Generation Z and 83% of millennials.
Romania and Poland lead the ranking
Cluj-Napoca, in northwestern Romania in the heart of Transylvania, topped Skyscanner's ranking thanks to its rich cultural offerings. Wroclaw, Poland, nicknamed the "Polish Venice" for its romantic canals and colorful architecture, came second. Palma de Mallorca, in Spain's Balearic Islands, rounded out the top three thanks to its sunny weather.
