A 64-year-old Russian climber was found dead at the bottom of a glacier crevasse in the ski resort of Chamonix in France on August 6.
The woman went on a solo hike on August 4, according to reports from the Telegram channel Shot. Alarm was raised when she failed to return at the agreed time to the Albert I refuge, located above the Tour glacier.
Two-day search operation
Rescuers searched for two days before locating her body at an altitude of 2,100 meters on August 6. Emergency services evacuated her body from the glacier by helicopter.
According to the gendarmerie, mountain accidents are rare during the summer season. Officers noted that most climbers know summer hikes are dangerous because thin layers of snow can collapse underfoot.
