Defense officials stated that the overnight drone strikes targeted numerous administrative territories spanning western, central, and southern Russia, as well as regions located further inland and maritime airspace.

The ministry listed the targeted locations as Bryansk, Belgorod, Voronezh, Volgograd, Vladimir, Kaluga, Kursk, Lipetsk, Oryol, Orenburg, Rostov, Ryazan, Saratov, Samara, Smolensk, and Tula oblasts. Russian forces also intercepted drones in the Moscow region, Krasnodar Krai, the Republic of Bashkiria, Crimea, and over the Black Sea.

Kaluga Oblast targeted in drone attack

Prior to the defense ministry announcement, the governor of Kaluga Oblast, Vladislav Shapsha, stated that the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched 50 drones toward his region.

Governor Shapsha reported that no information regarding casualties or significant structural damage had been received following the incoming strikes.

Regional context and air defense operations

Kaluga Oblast is an administrative region in western Russia located southwest of Moscow, sharing borders with Smolensk, Tula, Bryansk, and Oryol oblasts.

The cited locations span multiple geographic areas, ranging from western border regions such as Belgorod, Bryansk, and Kursk to central areas around Moscow. The reported targets also reached eastern territories including the Republic of Bashkiria near the Ural Mountains and Orenburg Oblast near the Kazakh border.

In the south, Krasnodar Krai and Crimea sit along the Black Sea coast. Crimea is a peninsula on the northern coast of the Black Sea, while the surrounding waters form a major maritime zone in Eastern Europe.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation coordinates national airspace defense through multilayered networks. These operations deploy radar guided anti aircraft missiles, military units, and electronic warfare systems to detect and disable incoming unmanned aerial vehicles.
