Reginald VelJohnson makes rare red carpet appearance

Actor Reginald VelJohnson made a rare red carpet appearance on August 26 when he attended the Los Angeles premiere of the film Onslaught.

The outing marked the 74-year-old actor's first red carpet appearance in two years. VelJohnson dressed in white pants and a cream-colored shirt featuring an image of a lion, pairing the look with a baseball cap, a cane, and cow-print clogs.

VelJohnson is widely known for playing police officer Carl Winslow on the television series Family Matters, which concluded its run in 1998. His screen credits prior to 2000 include Die Hard, Turner and Hooch, and Crocodile Dundee. More recently, he voiced a character in three episodes of the series Invincible.

In recent years, VelJohnson also appeared on season 33 of Dancing with the Stars alongside professional dancer Emma Slater. Although dancing was not his primary strength, he earned viewer support through his enthusiasm before being eliminated in week three of the competition.

Following his exit from the show, VelJohnson told Good Morning America that saying goodbye would be hard because he loved Slater. Slater described him as a forever friend and noted that audiences had missed seeing him on television, adding that a new generation of viewers had fallen in love with him.

VelJohnson has maintained fond memories of his time on Family Matters. During a 2017 cast reunion hosted by Entertainment Weekly featuring Jaleel White, Jo Marie Payton, and Kellie Shanygne Williams, VelJohnson said that seeing everyone together was heartwarming and brought him to tears.
