A 34-year-old police officer was found dead late on Monday night in a service vehicle belonging to the Hellenic Police in the Agios Dimitrios area, according to Greek authorities.
He was located shortly after 11:30 p.m. on a road near the junction of Pikrodafnis Street and Vouliagmenis Avenue, unconscious inside the car.
Authorities cordoned off the area to carry out investigations and collect evidence that could shed light on the circumstances of the incident.
Found in the passenger seat
The car was an unmarked vehicle used by the police Security Division and carried ordinary civilian license plates. The officer was found locked in the passenger seat with bruises visible on his face.
A coroner is expected to examine the body, helping investigators determine the exact cause and circumstances of his death.
