English actor Orlando Bloom has abruptly quit the upcoming independent thriller Reset co-starring Priyanka Chopra, leaving the movie in peril as filming commences.
The 49-year-old actor had been confirmed for the film throughout the pre-production process, but departed "at the last minute," according to sources speaking to TMZ on Tuesday. His unexpected exit has rankled cast and crew members, with insiders describing a "fiery resentment" among colleagues left in professional uncertainty.
Bloom was set to co-star alongside Chopra, 44, who also serves as a producer on the project. Sources told TMZ that the involvement of both star names was critical in persuading financial investors to fund the independent movie and securing international distribution rights.
With production starting, producers are working against time to fill the vacant co-starring role. Insiders informed TMZ that producers have narrowed their search to three actors to replace Bloom, with Chopra expected to make the "final call" on who takes over the role, assuming the film moves forward.
Film Premise and Creative Team
According to a logline from IMDb, Reset follows a woman, played by Chopra, who wakes up in the wilderness with no memory of how she got there. She must trust a charming stranger for survival, a role originally intended for Bloom, although he may not be who he claims to be.
In May, director Matt Smukler told Deadline that Bloom and Chopra displayed an "undeniable" chemistry that complemented the story. "I was looking for a pairing where attraction and mistrust could effortlessly coexist," Smukler told the outlet. "Priyanka and Orlando have this uncanny ability to make you believe both at once."
Producers Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber also praised the project in May, telling Deadline that Smukler and screenwriter Jordan Rawlins created "a gripping story of survival, romance, suspense, and deceit, replete with shocking twists." The producers added at the time: "We’re thrilled to have partnered with Priyanka and Orlando to bring it to the screen."

Bloom is best known for his appearances in major feature film franchises, including starring as Legolas in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Will Turner in the Pirates of the Caribbean series. In recent years, the English actor has appeared in projects including the 2023 film Gran Turismo, the 2024 thrillers The Cut and Red Right Hand, and the 2025 movie Deep Cover. His upcoming projects include the Werner Herzog movie Bucking Fastard and the comedy Wizards.
Chopra has starred in several notable projects recently, including the 2025 comedy Heads of State and the 2026 adventure film The Bluff. She also plays the lead role of Nadia Sinh on the Prime Video series Citadel opposite Richard Madden.
