Netflix has released the final trailer for season two of "The Gentlemen," the crime drama created by director Guy Ritchie, just a week before its premiere on the streaming platform. The company has also confirmed that a third season is already in the works, even though the second has yet to air.
From film to streaming hit
In 2019, Ritchie released "The Gentlemen," a film known in Spain as "Los señores de la mafia," starring Charlie Hunnam, Matthew McConaughey, Hugh Grant and Colin Farrell. The dark comedy followed Mickey Pearson, the head of a marijuana empire, and the criminals who circled him across London.
Hunnam is set to return to "Sons of Anarchy" in a new series, according to the source report.
Building on that film, Netflix premiered "The Gentlemen: The Series" exclusively in 2024. Also created by Ritchie, the show transplants the same world of criminals, aristocrats and illegal business into a new story led by Theo James and Kaya Scodelario.
Season 2 trailer and release date
Season two arrives on Netflix on September 3 and picks up the story one year after Eddie Horniman unexpectedly inherited a vast family estate and allied himself with Susie Glass and her father, Bobby, to fully enter the criminal underworld. What began in season one as a situation Eddie wanted resolved as quickly as possible has now grown into an empire he intends to expand.
Eddie and Susie's operations expand to Italy
That ambition comes with consequences. Eddie and Susie extend their operations into Italy, where they come into contact with Marco Moretti, a powerful criminal played by Sergio Castellitto, and Cico Maldini, played by Michele Morrone. Meanwhile, Bobby begins making increasingly questionable decisions, and the relationship between Eddie and Susie is put to the test.
A third season confirmed
Netflix has already given the green light to a third season, even before the second has premiered. Ritchie said the ambition of "The Gentlemen" has accelerated, the world has expanded, and the consequences carry weight, which he said made a third season inevitable. No story details have been revealed yet, but everything suggests Eddie still has plenty of criminal territory left to conquer.
