Brazilian actors Murilo Benício, 55, and Adriana Esteves, 56, shared a photo together on social media on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, celebrating the return of "Avenida Brasil," the telenovela set to get a new chapter in January 2027.
In the caption, Benício wrote that Brazil was back. The post quickly drew reactions from other celebrities, who said they were thrilled to see the on-screen couple appear together again.
Actress Monica Iozzi commented that it was her dream come true, while actress Paloma Bernardi called the reunion sensational. Actress Cacau Protásio left a string of heart emojis beneath the post.
Benício and Esteves played Tufão and Carminha in "Avenida Brasil," a telenovela that first aired on TV Globo in 2012. Written by João Emanuel Carneiro and broadcast in Globo's prime-time nine o'clock slot, it became one of the most successful telenovelas in Brazilian television history, remembered above all for Carminha's bitter rivalry with the character Rita.
Cast of Avenida Brasil 2
TV Globo also revealed the official cast for "Avenida Brasil 2" on Tuesday. The broadcaster confirmed that several actors from the original run will reprise their roles, including Esteves and Débora Falabella, who played Carminha and Rita in the clashes that defined the first version.
Also returning are Eliane Giardini as Murici, Cauã Reymond as Jorginho, Marcos Caruso as Leleco, Karol Lannes as Ágata, Juliano Cazarré as Adalto and Leticia Isnard as Ivana, among other cast members from the original telenovela.
What Comes Next
Little has been revealed so far about the plot of the new production. The expectation is that the sequel will recreate the same atmosphere as the 2012 original.
For now, "Avenida Brasil" continues to air in reruns as part of TV Globo's "Vale a Pena Ver de Novo" strand, which revisits past hit telenovelas, ahead of the new chapter's arrival in January 2027.
