Pop star Madonna has celebrated her 68th birthday during a family vacation in Greece with five of her six children. The global music icon gathered her family for an outdoor celebration on the Mediterranean country's coast this week.
The Queen of Pop posed for rare family photographs with daughters Lourdes Leon, 29, Mercy James, 20, and 13-year-old twins Stella and Estere, alongside her son Rocco Ritchie, 26. Her partner Akeem Morris, 30, was also present for the festivities, though her 20-year-old son David Banda was not seen in the photos.
During the getaway, Madonna wore an ornate dress designed by Italian luxury fashion house Dolce & Gabbana paired with a floral headpiece, later changing into a sheer white dress with gold chains, a shawl, and a parasol.
Her eldest children took to the street to participate in traditional Greek dancing. Lourdes, whose father is actor Carlos Leon, and Rocco, whose father is British film director Guy Ritchie, demonstrated their dance moves for family and onlookers.

The party later gathered for an alfresco dinner where they were joined at the table by a stray cat. Rocco carried out Madonna's birthday cake, decorated with an evil eye symbol, over which the singer made a wish before enjoying a cocktail with friends.
Sharing her photo collection on social media, Madonna captioned the post: "It's My Birthday! Eat, Pray, Love,Drink, Dance, Break plates, Feed Cats!! Thank you G*D!"

MTV Video Music Award Nominations
The birthday trip coincided with major career milestones for the singer. Nominations for the annual MTV Video Music Awards, first launched in 1984 by cable channel MTV, were announced on Tuesday morning with Madonna emerging as the most nominated artist of the year.
Madonna secured 11 VMA nominations following the release of her latest studio album, Confessions II, a follow-up to her 2005 record Confessions on a Dance Floor. Her 11 nods narrowly beat pop star Taylor Swift, who received nine nominations. Both artists will compete against each other for Video of the Year, with Swift nominated for The Fate of Ophelia and Madonna for Confessions II (The Film).

Music Collaboration With Lourdes Leon
Madonna's new album includes a duet titled The Test with her eldest daughter Lourdes, who has built a career as a singer, model, and celebrity socialite. In the song, Madonna addresses her daughter candidly, singing that she "tried to put you on a pedestal," while acknowledging that Lourdes "didn't ask for all the flashing lights."
Although Madonna and Lourdes are now close and collaborate regularly, both have previously spoken about earlier tensions in their relationship. Speaking to Interview magazine in 2021, Lourdes called her mother a "control freak" and revealed she paid her own college tuition and first apartment rent to achieve independence after high school.

"We don't get any handouts in my family. Obviously, I grew up with extreme privilege. There's no denying that," Lourdes told Interview magazine at the time.
"But I think my mom saw all these other kids of famous people, and she was like, 'My kids are not going to be like this.' Also, I feel like if your parents pay for things, then it gives them leverage over you. My mom is such a control freak, and she has controlled me my whole life. I needed to be completely independent from her as soon as I graduated high school."

Parental Perspective and Career Paths
Madonna previously shared her own perspective on her daughter in a 2019 interview with fashion publication Vogue. The singer praised her eldest child as "insanely talented," but noted that Lourdes lacked the same relentless drive that had made Madonna a household name. Since establishing her independence, Lourdes has forged her own path as an indie musician, model, and socialite.
