Daenerys of House Targaryen, the First, the Burning One, the Queen of Meereen, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Dothraki Sea, the Breaker of Chains and the Mother of Dragons – today Emilia Clarke celebrates her 36th birthday. And tomorrow, the last episode of the first season of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon will be on the screens.
It received special attention—the series being the first since The Game ended, costing HBO nearly $200 million (100 million more than the average cost of one season of the previous season).
And after the overwhelming success of the original project, she couldn’t lose face. Moreover, it necessitated the status of “most anticipated TV series of the year”.
Isn’t that the perfect excuse to step back into the George RR Martin universe and find out what the cast of the long-standing cult original series thinks about the House Targaryen backdrop embodied onscreen?
Emilia Clarke

Everyone’s favorite, Matt Smith, played the role of Damon Targaryen in “House of the Dragon”, the king’s rebellious brother. In Jake’s Takes, the actor revealed that one of his biggest struggles on set was wearing a wig, but in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Emilia Clarke, when asked if the cast of the front episode should bleach their hair, replied, “No! I almost lost my hair because I killed it with too much bleach. I had to cut it completely off. So if you like your hair, leave it alone.”

“It’s weird to start a new show in the same universe”

Just don’t panic. In fact, the author of the excerpt – Kit Harington, aka Jon Snow, to whom the solo spin-off will be dedicated – was delighted with “House of the Dragon”. He told Entertainment Weekly, “I really like it. My friend Miguel (Sapochnik – Note. ed.) is the showrunner of the series and I really enjoy it. I think they did a great job. It’s weird to start a new show in the same universe and feature it, but they did it.”

Peter Dinklage

Peter Dinklage, who plays Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones, said even before the premiere of House of the Dragon that it would be better if the series didn’t try to be number two in Game of Thrones, and tried to go its own way. “Otherwise, fans might see it as a money scam. In most cases, sequels are created only because the first project was well earned. Because of this motivation, they are far from being very good. But in any case, I will be happy to watch House of the Dragon as a casual viewer, not knowing what will happen next.”

Maisie Williams

When Maisie Williams was asked if she would watch House of the Dragon in an interview with Variety, she enthusiastically replied, “Yes.” However, this is not surprising if you know that the actress who played Arya Stark in Game of Thrones is friends with Olivia Cooke, who played one of the main roles in the prequel. By the way, in the same interview Maisie Williams said that Olivia Cooke talked about working “under a lot of pressure” in her speeches: “All of our show’s problems fell on new people who had nothing to do with them. I want to support her as much as possible (Cook – Note. ed.) as an actress, but also really curious. I’m looking forward to watching Game of Thrones – though not Game of Thrones – and I can’t wait to experience it like someone who wasn’t on the show.”

John Bradley

Actor John Bradley, who plays Samwell Tarly, admitted in an interview with Yahoo that he is well aware that the new HBO series lives in the shadow of a giant, so he cannot avoid “unnecessary and illogical” comparisons. “Some say they prefer House of the Dragon to our show, others say our show is better than theirs. People just can’t resist that kind of thing,” said the actor, adding that he would avoid talking about any prequels. However, he has already listed himself among his fans: “I am very, very happy to watch this and not worry about what my next scene will be.”
