The day before, it became known that Rosfinmonitoring officially entered Meta Platforms* in the register of terrorists and extremists. This was reported by the RBC broadcast.
Earlier, we faced a similar situation in March of this year – the Moscow Tverskoy District Court recognized Meta * as an extremist organization, and the social networks Instagram * and Facebook * were officially banned in Russia. However, we continued to host them, share their photos, and share stories in the hope that they would be read. It should be noted that it was actually read and watched, albeit in a different amount than before. But will it be the same now – the question arises: will ordinary users be affected by the decision of Rosfinmonitoring?
That’s why we decided to collect the most frequently asked questions on the Web about the inclusion of Meta Platforms* in the registry of terrorists and extremists, and then find their answers.
Can I use Instagram* and Facebook*?
Yes you can. As Alexander Khinshtein, chairman of the State Duma Information Policy Committee, has previously stated, users will not be held responsible for posts on Instagram. That is, you can own and maintain a page in social networks. Users are not breaking the law and the legal situation has not changed.
“User will not be held responsible for posting on Instagram even after being considered extremist, but liability will apply for posts that violate the law.”
Can I buy ads on Facebook* and Instagram*?
It’s officially impossible to buy ads on Meta*: now. This will be considered a transfer of funds to finance extremist activities (Article 282.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The maximum penalty under this article is imprisonment for up to 10 years.
Can I post links to these social networks?
Links to the site are tantamount to displaying symbols of an extremist organisation. Any public display of symbols – on the website, on the doors of a store and cafe, in a car, on social networks, on posters, on business cards – will be the basis for bringing an arrest up to 15 days to administrative responsibility (Article 20.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation).
How to write about Instagram* or Facebook*?
As before, speaking of these social networks, it should be noted that these are extremist organizations. There are two options: first, write a note in parentheses after the first mention of the establishment in the text; the second is to put an asterisk
take a note after each word in the text and at the end of the material.*
It was recognized as an extremist and banned in Russia.
