47-year-old woman got pregnant naturally after three miscarriages

A 47-year-old woman shared the joy of conceiving naturally after three miscarriages and spending £8,500 on IVF treatment.

Nicola Barrand-Haig from Wistow, Leicestershire, found out she was pregnant in late January after visiting a psychic who had predicted she would be pregnant by then.

The couple had met on Tinder’s dating app seven years ago, and Nicola, who says she “always wanted to be a mom”, hoped her wish would come true soon.

The couple’s fertility journey has been grueling, and they began to worry more and more that they would never be able to become parents, worrying that menopause could halt the “race” to conceive.

“I always wanted to be a mother,” Nicola said. “But before Nick, I never met the right person to have kids with.”

Expectant mothers and fathers started talking in February of 2015 and tried to have a baby seven months later.

They realized that “it was nothing” and went to the doctor.

“It was worrying for us,” Nicola admitted.

“Since we were both under 42 at the time, I wasn’t thinking of getting pregnant during our wedding ceremony – as we did when planning the wedding – we were allowed to take the IVF course through the NHS. be! ‘

The heartbroken couple suffered a “complete IVF failure” and naturally continued their efforts to conceive.

They tried IVF again in 2019 – this time in private – but unfortunately this resulted in Nicola miscarrying about seven weeks later.

Nicola spent weeks nervously hoping her pregnancy would be healthy and successful, but despite her concerns, she wanted to tell her family and friends as soon as possible. A scan of their baby in the photo

Nicola continued: ‘Of course we got pregnant twice, but both had two miscarriages at seven weeks.

“Each miscarriage affected me differently, and I experienced a wide range of emotions, from feeling empty to overwhelming sadness.”

After years of struggling to have a baby, the couple explored other options to fulfill their family’s dream, including adoption.

But Nicola did not want to give up trying to conceive naturally.

There was no hope last year when a special counsel told the couple that their “only option” was to use donor eggs and have IVF for “an extra £15,000”.

The couple even went so far as to subscribe to the list, pay the non-refundable deposit, and even select their donors, but heart-to-heart they decided to keep trying.

“I felt like they gave up because of our age, but I was determined,” Nicola said.

Being a spiritual person at heart, he even went to visit an oracle who predicted children – plurals – in his future.

The couple’s fertility journey has been grueling, and they began to worry more and more that they would never be able to become parents, worrying that menopause could halt the “race” to conceive.

“I was quite shocked when the oracle I saw told me I was going to get pregnant in February 2022 and saw not one but two babies,” the mother-to-be said.

Nicola said that every time she reached the peak of fertility, she and Nick were confident that they would try to have a baby again.

“I had never tracked my cycle and mistakenly assumed the dates I was most fertile,” she explains.

And apparently, clairvoyance was right when Nicholas learned that his period was at the end of January.

The photo shows Nicola’s scan in the early stages of pregnancy. “I know there are some friends and family who worried it would never happen to us, but they were so surprised that at about 33 weeks of pregnancy we finally got to this point,” she said.

She spent weeks nervously hoping that her pregnancy would be healthy and successful, but despite her concerns, she wanted to tell her family and friends as soon as possible.

She continued: ‘I can’t believe I’m going to have a baby; It was definitely a bumpy roller coaster ride, but in the end, hope held us back on this ride.

“At first we didn’t dare to hope for our pregnancy because we both assumed/expected it to end like the other three.

“But when we broke the news to family and friends, everyone was so happy for us and my mom is so excited to have another grandchild.

“I know there are some friends and family who were worried that it could never happen to us, but they were shocked that we finally got to this point at around 33 weeks pregnant.

“Our baby is due in October and Nick joked that we needed another one immediately to make the prediction come true!”
