Every now and then there is a dress that sparks the imagination of women so much that you start seeing it everywhere. The vampire wife’s dress is such a creation. Elegant in the body, ribbed sleeves and countless prints, fabrics and shades, the only downside is the high price. A cotton iteration starts at £750 and goes up to £2,250 for a midi version in metallic silk lamé.

Fortunately, these prices are no longer accessible to budget-conscious folks. For a more modest amount, fans can wear the dress even if it’s just for a weekend. Because if 1967 is the summer of love, 2022 is the summer of renting clothes. Various sites have begun offering affordable loan services to a growing number of women seeking a permanent answer to the perennial “what to wear” question for magazine events.

The must-have rental of the season? Vampire woman dress. Rental site By Rotation reports that the size 6 green lamé version alone has been rented more than 25 times this summer, with high demand for all 217 models across the site. The dress’s popularity can partly be explained by its celebrity fans such as Sienna Miller, Salma Hayek, Natalie Portman, Thandiwe Newton, Chloë Grace Moretz, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Holly Willoughby, Kylie Minogue, Alexa Chung, and Florence Pugh and Welch. The Duchess of Cambridge also chose the brand’s Falconetti design for the first official joint portrait of herself and Prince William.

It’s incredibly flattering for most body shapes. Last summer, Carrie Johnson rented the satin floral dress from My Wardrobe headquarters for the G7 dinner at the Eden Project in Cornwall. More women have chosen it for special occasions this summer. Have they encountered ten other women wearing it? Did they love it enough for them to do it? Let’s see if I’ve always loved The Vampire’s Wife outfits – there’s something very special about the cut, the details and the delicate material. They feel feminine and mystical. Coincidentally, founder Susie Cave recently moved to the medieval town where I live in Sussex and created a scented candle inspired by the history of the area. This fascinated me the most.

I’ve been dreaming of wearing one of these dresses for years, but I could never afford to buy one. I was going to a wedding on anniversary weekend and the dress I bought did not arrive on time. I went to Selfridges to buy something else and saw a popup for the Hurr fashion rental site. It was my friend who saw the golden glitter arm of the Falconetti design. She took off the dress and asked if this was the designer I liked. It immediately made sense: why spend £100 on something I don’t feel special about and may never wear again, when I have memories of a dress I spent so much and really loved?

The shape was flattering and the color was perfect. I got so many compliments that day – everyone liked it.

I always rent clothes for special occasions and parties – it’s better for the planet and my bank account. Being a clumsy person, I get nervous when I tell him about them, but nothing catastrophic has happened yet. I’ve loved The Vampire’s Wife dresses for years and it looked like the perfect occasion to wear it to a spring wedding. It seems like every celebrity from the Duchess of Cambridge to Natalie Portman has worn this tag, but I haven’t seen one that’s exactly the style I was looking for, namely a floral print long sleeve midi dress. It was the right choice: the ceremony was very traditional and suitable for the occasion. I paired it with pearl chandelier earrings and silver stiletto heels from & Other Stories.

Fortunately no one wore the same dress at the wedding and Belle’s design was a great icebreaker, some guests asked me how the rental process worked. As great as I felt, I wouldn’t buy it. I am a person who wants to try a different outfit for my next event. Wearing designer clothes is just too much fun to stick to one dress.

I wanted something special for my party and a dress from The Vampire’s Wife had been on my radar for a while. I’ve been to pretty much every high street store and haven’t found anything that feels good or is special enough. At the end of the day, the idea of renting a design came to my mind, but when it came true, I sewed a dress from this brand. What I wore in the end was not the style I was looking for initially because when you rent you are limited to what fits your size. I had never seen this particular model before – at first I wanted to see the shortest Falconetti dress of all celebrities – but in the end I loved it. Given its popularity, I’m grateful to be the only one wearing it!

I would reevaluate the rent. It offers so many options, especially for high-end items that you don’t want to spend on a one-time event. I also like the idea that this is a more sustainable way of dressing. Will I ever buy a vampire wife dress? As much as I loved it, I wouldn’t wear it enough to justify the price. I will definitely rent another one even if I just need a chance.

I had already rented a black Falconetti for Christmas but wanted something really special for my 30th birthday. I saw the sparkly pink festival dress and fell in love with it. I had organized a fancy dinner and wanted something classy and fun, and this fit the bill. I wore it with a pair of purple Terry De Havilland heels and a vintage black Accessorize bag that I’ve had since I was 18.

I also often rent out my clothes and clothes – I’ve made over £500 in the last month alone. Renting is a fun way to experiment without buying. For a large party, I’d rent things that wouldn’t be easily damaged, but if the worst happened, I’d be open to the lender.

I love the community aspect of the rental. With the Per Rotation app, you can see who it belongs to and how it shaped it. The owner of the dress I rented also had pictures of other women who borrowed it so you can see how it looks. The dress received a lot of positive reviews, which encouraged me. I enjoyed borrowing it. Luckily no one else has worn anything like this but many people wanted to rent it after seeing mine.
