London’s coolest private club?

There is no shortage of private member clubs in London. But the neighborhood is a long way from its newbie, stuffy, smug neighbors — and it already has the celebrity seal of approval.

Opened in Grosvenor Square two months ago, Twenty-Two has no dress code, unisex bathrooms, a Studio 54-inspired basement club, and a (relatively) affordable membership plan.

Invention of hotelier and restaurateur Navid Mirtorabi and his father, Simon, British scion Jamie Rueben, half of the Rueben Brothers, which owns extensive sites in London’s Mayfair, including the 200-year-old Burlington Arcade.

The real estate giant made headlines when she was spotted at a party in Los Angeles with Kim Kardashian shortly after breaking up with Kanye West last year.

While most member clubs take pride in maintaining tradition and impartiality, The Twenty Two is more concerned with creating an atmosphere that will pull guests through the door.

“Everyone is welcome and everyone is invited, but above all I want it to be accessible to new generations,” Mirtorabi told the Financial Times.

“I want seniors to feel comfortable and be a part of it, but not in the first place.”

The management’s young and contemporary visions are reflected in the club’s management style.

There are unisex restrooms, something hard to imagine at any of the other nearby member clubs, and there are no rules for wearing tuxedos, ties or shirts. Hoodies, sneakers and sandals are allowed.

Also relatively affordable for such an establishment. Young people under 35 pay 750 euros per year. Subscription to Soho House London is £1,100; £1750 at nearby Annabel’s.

Not surprisingly, the member list is top secret, although it is believed to be “several hundred”. It has also had a large number of A-list visitors, in addition to the crowd, since it opened a few months ago.

Serving fresh, seasonal cuisine, the restaurant is open to non-members and is still relatively affordable, with meals at around £30.

One of the phrases the founders reiterate when promoting their new venture is “A white glove service without white gloves”.

Twenty Two also offers 31 bedrooms, each with its own inspiration. The walls and ceilings of one featured in most promotional materials are covered with bright red wallpaper.

Hotel guests also have access to areas reserved for members of the building, such as the library and basement club, which is likened to Studio 54.
