My Haven, Matt Goss: 53-year-old singer-songwriter in his Las Vegas living room

53-year-old singer-songwriter Matt Goss shared highlights of his stay in Las Vegas.

1. LIPPI

This bronze statue was given to me by my mother. Most of the time I’m on the phone and I see fingers on my lips telling me to think before I speak. T.

This didn’t always happen in the documentary Bros: After The Screaming Stops on our 2017 reunion tour.

2. WHO IS WHO

This photo of my identical twin brother Luke, me and our mother Carol was taken by our father Alan. The funny thing is, I don’t even know who I am.

Mom and Dad were together in bar bands: both were singing and Dad was playing the guitar. My dad has been a detective for 37 years and I’m really proud of his career.

He first broke up when we were four and then came back briefly, before he and my mom broke up definitively when we were five.

3. STARRY NIGHT

Here is my backstage pass for Frank, Liza and Sammy: The Ultimate Event! We were at the height of our reputation with Bros in 1989 and it was a very special night.

I was a guest of Liza Minnelli, and she tried on two dresses before the show at the Royal Albert Hall, and she asked me and Neil Tennant of Pet Shop Boys to choose from. Then we met Sammy Davis Jr, who was very encouraging, and Frank Sinatra, who brought me a glass of whiskey.

I never thought I would one day play Frank’s songs wherever they play at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.

4. Race friendly

Reggie is three years old and very special. I had a bulldog named Alfie who was my best friend.

I cooked for him every day and he was such a character. I said I would never have a bulldog again when he died, but I changed my mind when a friend sent me a picture of this little man.

As a puppy, Reggie wasn’t as attached to me as Alfie, but then I started cooking for him and now we’re best friends – he shares my pillow when I wake up in the morning.

5. CHAINS OF LOVE

I love this strap. Instead of a watch, there’s a locket with a telescopic pen, a mother’s ring, and a lock of her and my grandfather’s hair.

The mother died of cancer seven years ago. Coming from a broken family, my grandfather gave us the fatherly energy we needed.

It was the happiest time of my life living with her and my mom’s sister Sally – she has such a beautiful voice and it made me fall in love with singing.

6. GANGSTER’S GIFT

This bracelet evokes memories of Reggie Kray. I was in a restaurant in London when my phone rang and a hoarse voice on the other end said, ‘Hi Matt, this is Reggie Kray.

“I want to say that I love what you do and that I have a real affinity for you as twins.” A friendship developed and he called me regularly from prison and recited poetry to me and said he wanted to be a stylist.

If there was a Hollywood movie about Kray, he was adamant when he asked me to play him and Luke Ronnie. He gave this bracelet to me on my 30th birthday.

  • As told to Rosanna Greenstreet. Matt’s new album The Beautiful Unknown is out.
