The only lesson I’ve learned from life

Kirsty Gallacher, 46, is the eldest daughter of great golfer and former Ryder Cup captain Bernard Gallacher. Sky Sports has hosted for 20 years, now co-hosting The Great British Breakfast on GB News. She is divorced from rugby player Paul Sampson and lives in Berkshire with her two children.

I grew up with a winning father. I’ve always been an athlete and playing competitions was second nature to me. But winning was more important back then. Most of my strength and courage comes from sports.

As I got older, I began to understand the importance of losing and the lessons you can learn from it. I tried to impress my kids – I don’t always want them to win. You need to know how to deal with things that don’t always go your way.

The only lesson I’ve learned from life

Kirsty Gallacher, 46, said she tried very hard to be a perfectionist like her father when she was younger.

As a young man, I tried very hard to be a perfectionist like my father. For example, I’ve become almost obsessively obsessed with any sporting activity at school, and it can be devastating.

For example, I competed in Strictly Come Dancing in 2015 and people thought I would work hard to win because I was so competitive. But as I said to those who want to listen, dance is a discipline. Of course I wanted to do my best, but my most important attitude was that it was a fun activity.

I loved being with Brendan Cole. We were eliminated in the sixth week. I had a lot of fun so I didn’t mind – it was fun, not a competitive sport.

I am the ambassador for the Women’s Euro 2022, which will start at the beginning of July. These are highly motivated young football players at a crucial time for women’s sport in general and football in particular.

They don’t need any advice from me. But if I had to give them anything, I think I would share one of my favorite mantras: don’t be afraid to fail.

As I tell my kids, that’s all you can ask for as long as they’re doing their best. It’s also important to never forget that every challenge is a fresh start, whether you win or lose.
