The premiere of the animated movie “Shrek 5” has been delayed by six months – it will be released on December 23, 2026 instead of July 1, according to Deadline.
The studio decided to show the third part of “Minions” earlier, which was originally planned to be released only in June 2027 – this is due to the enormous popularity of the series. As publications write, Despicable Me 4, released at the end of June 2024, collected $ 230 million (more than 23 billion rubles at the current exchange rate – Note ed.) at the worldwide box office in its first weekend.
According to publications, Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz will return to their roles as Shrek, Donkey and Fiona, and Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon will return to the director’s chair.
In addition, Illumination studio changed the release date of another unnamed project from March 19, 2027 to June 30, 2027.
Let’s remember that the cartoon was first released on the big screen in 2001 and became one of the highest-grossing films of the year and won the Oscar for best animated film. The last one, Shrek Forever After, premiered 15 years ago.
