Details of Christopher Nolan’s new movie have finally been revealed. The Oscar-winning director tries to bring ancient Greek poetry to life.

Universal Studios officially announced that Christopher Nolan’s new movie is The Odyssey. It is an adaptation of an epic poem written by Homer in the 8th century BC. “This is a legendary action epic shot around the world using the all-new IMAX film technology. The film brings Homer’s seminal saga to the IMAX big screen for the first time, opening in theaters worldwide on July 17, 2026,” the studio announced on social media Monday.

Homer’s ancient Greek poem tells the story of Odysseus, king of Ithaca, and his perilous journey home after the Trojan War. It includes iconic episodes of his encounters with the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens and the witch-goddess Circe, culminating in his reunion with his wife Penelope.

As previously announced, Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o and Charlize Theron will star in Nolan’s new movie. Filming on “Odyssey” is expected to begin early next year.
