The influx of young people who want to become the new incarnation of the characters in the Harry Potter universe turned out to be enormous. The producers examined 32 thousand candidates.
Harry Potter showrunner Francesca Gardiner announced this. The search for the Boy Who Lived and his two closest friends has been ongoing for several months. The call was made by the series’ casting director, Lucy Bevan. Children aged between 9 and 11 were invited to audition as of April 2025. In addition to age, there was another restriction for candidates: they had to live in the United Kingdom or Ireland.
In the first round, children were asked to submit two videos, one containing a short story or poem, and the second about themselves and “a family member, friend, or pet you are especially close to.”
It is claimed that Bevan’s team are currently conducting chemistry tests with young players. A decision is expected relatively soon. Deadline writes that once the creators of the series decide on the main trio, they will return to the profiles of the other participants. They will be the first contestants for the remaining child roles in the series.
Shooting should begin next summer. As mentioned before, they will have to, as the film crew will need to shoot the necessary scenes before the children grow up. What makes matters even more complicated is that it required a lot more footage as the showrunners aimed to make the series more fleshed out and closer to JK Rowling’s books.
