The popular streaming platform presented the first teaser of Alain Chabat’s 3D animated series “Asterix and Obelix: The Great Battle”. It’s based on the seventh album of the cult comic book series by Rene Goscinny and Albert Uderzo, in which “brave Gauls” battle the Romans, Deadline writes.
The story, first published in 1964 under the title War of the Chiefs, tells how Asterix and the village of Obelix became defenseless against the Romans after the potions master Getafix was hit in the head with a menhir and lost his memory. Without his knowledge, the villagers will no longer have access to the magic potion that is the secret to their superiority on the battlefield.
The new series created excitement in France with the participation of actor and director Chabas in the project. His 2002 feature film Asterix and Obelix: The Cleopatra Mission remains the most successful and beloved of all Asterix and Obelix film adaptations and television series to date.
Chabat co-directed the new series with Fabrice Joubert (Minions, Ugly). Me 2″ and “The Lorax”). Adaptation and dialogues were written by Alain Chabat with Benoit Houllon and Piano. Adaptation rights belong to Les Editions Albert René.
The series will be released on Netflix in 2025. The streaming service hasn’t announced an exact release date, but it’s expected to happen at the beginning of the year in France.
