Operation “Save the New Year”: How we decorated the editorial office and what came of it?

New Year is always about mood. Fancy Moscow, Christmas tree markets, the smell of tangerines and champagne, and pure joy as you eagerly await gifts from Santa and make wishes to the sound of bells. You may not even be the type of person who orders decorations right after the first snowfall or prepares a festive table with the first light of the sun, but the atmosphere around you cannot help but attract you to pleasant New Year’s tasks. As you might guess, the author of the text was one of the “Smirks” who, until recently, was not forced to even hang a Christmas tree branch or a garland in his house, let alone completely decorate the space.

But the New Year is also about magic and change (that’s why it’s new). So, as a complete stranger to the New Year’s mood, I decided to challenge myself and see if the atmosphere could really change the attitude towards the holiday. I immediately decided to start on a large scale and volunteered to decorate our editorial office, which, believe me, needed a Christmas mood. No, our loft-style office is beautiful, but we can decorate it in honor of the main holiday of the year.

For the purity of the experiment, I didn’t look for decor on the Internet on my own – I was too scared by the prospect of drowning in a sea of ​​pictures and marketing gimmicks, so I asked for help. Some will say it’s a trick, but I’ll say it’s just a New Year’s miracle. I turned to our old friends from the Familia discount store chain.

Before asking a billion questions, let’s clarify: in addition to the wide range of clothes of world famous and Russian brands that you can buy with discounts of up to 85%, there are also things that will create comfort in your home. . I went there to buy jewelry and I invite you to see how it is.

My pride and sense of responsibility wouldn’t let me go unprepared, so I created a mood board. The inspiration was old Soviet postcards and cozy New Year’s covers of the New Yorker magazine, harkening back to childhood and perfectly conveying the atmosphere of the holiday. And if there were no problems with the general concept, there were also problems with the implementation, but I knew one thing for sure: I needed garlands, Christmas tree decorations and the tree itself. We will figure out the rest on a case by case basis.

The first thing that catches your eye when you walk in is the intuitive layout of the zones. It’s nearly impossible to get confused in the store, which saved me from unconsciously walking along the tracks. The selection did not disappoint either. Even my biased New Year’s eye had something to catch. In addition to Santa Clauses, I also found New Year’s mugs, candlesticks, Christmas tree balls, wreaths, garlands and even plates in the store’s assortment. Need I mention that I stayed at the department longer than usual? Moreover, the advantages have doubled thanks to the wide product range, affordable prices and loyalty program.

Although I wanted to stay on time, since I still had to decorate the editorial office, I spent almost the whole day in Familia, I was so impressed by the assortment. But it’s time to go back. Apparently holiday shopping gave me strength, so I ran to the editorial office, wanting to finally bring my idea to life.

Everything was used: bright garlands of different colors and sizes, Christmas garlands, a fir branch that became a New Year’s accent in the office, around which I placed tangerines and lit candles. And a small Christmas tree became a decoration for my workplace; I hung Christmas tree decorations on it. It’s a shame there aren’t any little lights to complete the picture, but I blame my carelessness for that.

As a result, I managed to recreate all the references and also bring the warm family atmosphere of the upcoming holiday to our place. Meanwhile, our colleagues did not stand aside and decorated their tables. And most importantly, based on my own experience, I am convinced that you can create the New Year’s mood yourself, the main thing is the right mood!
