Ultimately, the success of the Witcher series has proven that Slavic horror stories are a breath of fresh air for horror fans. That’s why we decided to collect new films and series that will interest not only Russian viewers, but also everyone around the world.
“Sergius against evil spirits”
This urban fantasy could be called the Russian version of The Witcher, but the action takes place in the present day. In Moscow, one after another, people disappear, disappear and are killed under strange circumstances. Evil hunter Serius and police chief Katya take over the investigation. Together they face bloodthirsty creatures. Despite the fears, there is room for romance and black humor in the series. The duet was performed by Roman Mayakin and Lukerya Ilyashenko.

Film trilogy based on the works of Nikolai Gogol. Moreover, the author acts as the main character of the events in his own stories. It has everything that makes us love folk horror so much: witches, mermaids, drowned women and other evil spirits. In the first part “Gogol. In the Beginning, the mysterious murders of girls in the Poltava region are investigated and the author will have to personally fight the devil in the form of a black horse. The film “Gogol. Viy” tells about the confrontation between the hero Viy and the monster disguised as a girl. The third part is “Gogol. The “Terrible Revenge” clerk will have to use magic to lift a hundred-year-old curse to save her lover. The main role was played by Alexander Petrov.
“Brownie”
The evil spirit in this story is nothing like the sweet and mischievous brownie Kuzya. The horror film tells the story of two orphans, Varya and Arseny, who encounter a monster in their foster parents’ house. The children were played by Vasilisa Nemtsova and Oleg Chugunov. The film also stars Vitaly Kishchenko, Natalia Vdovina and Rosa Khairullina. It is recommended to watch for anyone who can’t wait to dive into Russian culture.
“Yaga. Nightmare of the Dark Forest”
A young family moves to a new apartment and hires a nanny for their newborn daughter. When his eldest son Yegor starts noticing something strange, his family doesn’t believe him. One day, the baby disappears and Yegor finds his parents in a trance. To save them, the boy will have to challenge an ancient Slavic demon. Svetlana Ustinova appeared in the role of Baba Yaga.
Duology “Queen of Spades”
In the first episode, “The Queen of Spades: The Black Rite,” four young people summon the Queen of Spades, who tries to take them to the other world at all costs. The second part of the movie Queen of Spades: Through the Looking Glass tells the story of an evil spirit being summoned by boarding school students.
