The creators of HBO’s new Harry Potter adaptation have chosen their favorite candidate for the role of Dumbledore. The Dunkirk star could play the Hogwarts headmaster.
Variety writes that actor Mark Rylance has become the main candidate for the role of the magician. The publication reported that negotiations are not currently ongoing, but the studio has already contacted the actor to gauge his interest and availability.
Rylance himself does not comment on this information. An HBO spokesperson said: “We understand that such a high-profile series will create a lot of rumors and speculation. As we progress through pre-production, we will only confirm details once deals are finalized.”
The series, based on JK Rowling’s books, is designed for seven seasons. The creators promise to pay close attention to details missed in the original films. Casting for the main roles has already been announced. The cast is scheduled for release in spring 2025. Shooting will start then. Francesca Gardiner (“Descendants,” “Killing Eve”) became the showrunner and writer of the series. The show is directed by Mark Mylod. Under his leadership, Game of Thrones and The Last of Us were released.
