The main intrigue of the year – the new series “Crime and Punishment” with Ivan Yankovsky and Alena Mikhailova in the leading roles was supposed to be released in Kinopoisk on October 26, but literally a few minutes before it started, the premiere was postponed. First for a day. Then to the next. And the next one. Finally, distributors announced that the album was postponed indefinitely.

We can imagine how upset the audience and Dostoyevsky would be if they saw all this chaos. It would be symbolic to postpone the release date to the author’s birthday, but cancel it at the last minute… Of course, everyone runs to the Internet for answers, and there rumors multiply like mushrooms after rain. And now they are talking about the fact that the main thing is not in an advertising campaign to increase interest in the series, but in the guardians of morality, and this is already interesting.

The press preview of the series was held on October 22. For obvious reasons, the The Fashion Vibes editor couldn’t miss this momentous event and watched the first two episodes.

It’s time to lay the cards on the table and tell how the new version came to be, and at the same time understand what could harm the humiliated and offended. As a result, the series became available to watch online at 22:00 on November 2.

Let’s say it right away: We liked the series even though it started off a bit boring. At the end of the second episode, the editor caught himself thinking with regret that maybe they would show the third episode and they wouldn’t have to wait so long? And that’s a good sign! It seems that everyone or almost everyone knows the plot, and Dostoevsky’s film adaptations are a dime a dozen, but Vladimir Mirzoev has something to surprise the audience. And the point is not that the action is transferred to the present day – the difference is not so felt, and in some places it is often unclear at what time the events took place. Take, for example, the Marmeladovs’ apartment, which has no signs of modernity, and the consumptive Katerina (Victoria Tolstoganova) bathes her children the old-fashioned way in a kind of basin. The magic is in the storytelling itself.

Here it is difficult not to recall the recent success of The Master and Margarita, in which the events of the novel take place in a hypothetical Soviet present. This seems like a familiar story, but the love between the main characters is so believable that you believe it, which cannot be said for Bulgakov’s novel. The nuance is in the accents. The situation is the same in Mirzoev’s “Crime and Punishment”. Ivan Yankovsky in the role of Rodion Raskolnikov does not attract attention and the story begins to play with new colors.

This time the characters of Raskolnikov’s sisters Dunya and Marfa Svidrigailova Lyubov Aksenova and Yulia Snigir appeared from a new side. In the novel, almost no attention is paid to them, but in Mirzoev’s film adaptation they turn from functions into flesh-and-blood contradictory personalities, whose relationships are interesting to observe. Avdotya Romanova is forced to work as a nanny in Svidrigailov’s rich mansion to support her sick mother and pay for the education of her brother, who will one day become a lawyer.

It cannot be said that his situation is already simple, but he also has to endure harassment from the owner of the estate, Arkady Svidrigailov (Vladislav Abashin). She literally walks on a knife’s edge – after all, Marfa loves her husband madly, but she deals with her jealousy in a very original way. The landowner had once rescued him from prison and bound him with an agreement that allowed him to stay with him. However, he could not find a solution to the betrayal and therefore decided to take control. She knows that her husband’s interest will disappear the moment he makes Dunya his mistress, and she tells this directly to the girl. He even generously offers to set her up with his rich brother Pyotr Luzhin (Nikita Tarasov).

It is clear that participating in such games is mortally dangerous, and Aksenova’s heroine avoids intimacy with Svidrigailov, thus unknowingly causing her to fall more and more in love with him. Marfa attributes his coldness to his inexperience and even invites her to her home to teach him the art of seduction. Was it this scene that made the bigots so angry? I hope not, because it doesn’t violate the logic of the story at all. And Yulia Snigir so touchingly conveyed the character of a jealous woman and a desperate woman that you want to sit with her and rub the crocodile skin bags with hand cream. We know that Marfa will die, we know in whose hands it is, but even here Anastasia and Vladimir Mirzoev managed to surprise the audience and we regret that we will not see such an interesting character anymore. In the book, his departure didn’t seem so painful and dramatic.

Another plus of the series is that although Dostoevshchina seems to be about despair and decay, there are also funny parts, unlike the novel. I do not want to deprive the viewer of the intrigue, but as evidence let us cite a moment when Pyotr Luzhin supposedly sheds tears for his deceased sister, but in reality he just “suffers from the alder.” In general, Tarasov’s character turned out to be quite funny, but the author was rather grumpy and did not cause much sympathy. And the main character’s friend Dmitry Razumikhin (Tikhon Zhiznevsky) will make you smile more than once.

But now about the main character. He clearly suffers from a split personality – the devil (Boris Khvoshnyansky) occasionally whispers in his ear. In general, the friendship between Raskolnikov and the devil is a particular pleasure. Yankovsky’s hero comes to St. Petersburg with poverty, hunger and hurt pride. While wandering around St. Petersburg and thinking about how to kill the old moneylender (Ela Sanko), references to other works of Dostoevsky can also be noticed.

A completely different character in The Brothers Karamazov delivered a monologue about a dog to Raskolnikov’s camera. And now another disclaimer: Yankovsky’s hero not only has terrible dreams, but also terrible visions; In one of them, she dances naked in a pool of blood. The image is bright and memorable; Isn’t this the same scandalous scene that jeopardized the release of the series? In any case, this is what they write on the Internet and we know that they will not lie there.

Although the series was labeled 18+ and the creators had warned about the presence of sex scenes, it would be a shame if it was postponed because the artistic intent eventually suffered and the series had to be recast at a later date. hurry.

So let’s go back to where we started. The biggest advantage of the new version is that the series leaves intrigue, although the content of the book is known, but does not spoil the author’s intention, but on the contrary enriches it. And that’s great.
