Princess Mary attended the wedding of Prince Gustav of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg and Carina Axelsson with a flowery Zimmermann number to delight her Australian fans.

The Australian-born royal family was with her husband, Prince Frederik, at his highly anticipated June 4 wedding to Prince Joachim, Princess Marie, Princess Benedikte, Princess Alexandra, Prince Hubertus and Princess Kelly.

Prince Gustav and his new wife walked in front of 80 guests in the corridor of Bad Berleburg Castle Evangelical Church in Germany.

Carina Axelsson is an American writer best known for the teen fashion crime drama Model Under Cover.

Prince Gustav lived with Carina for many years, although they were unable to marry due to a clause in Gustav’s grandfather’s will.

The will forbids her to inherit family property if she marries someone who is not of Protestant, noble, or Aryan descent. A Danish court confirmed on April 27 that Gustav could marry Axelsson on June 4, New My Royals reported.

Princess Mary for this occasion wore a flower-eyed Zimmermann dress with pale pink shoes and her hair was tied in a charming top knot.

One fan of the look wrote, “Mary, I’m impressed, best dressed nobleman ever, I want whatever she’s wearing.”

Mary – born Mary Elizabeth Donaldson – is one of the most respected women on the international scene.

Mary met her husband, Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, by chance at the Sydney bar Slip Inn during the 2000 Olympics.

Supporting the Danish Olympic sailing team in Australia, Fred asked Mary for her phone number after their conversation, and a love affair ensued.

“We shook hands when we first met. I didn’t know he was a Danish prince. Half an hour later someone came up to me and said, “Do you know who these people are?” Mary explained in an interview about her meeting with the heir to the Danish throne.

Before Mary moved to Denmark in 2001 to learn Danish at Studieskolen in Copenhagen, Frederik had a long-distance relationship for a year when she made secret trips to the Down Under.

In early 2003, Frederik’s mother, Queen Margrethe, publicly acknowledged the relationship, and the couple announced their engagement on 8 October that same year, at Amalienborg Castle.

Frederik and Mary were married at Copenhagen Cathedral on May 14, 2004, and the newly minted Crown Princess chose a beautiful gown by Danish designer Uffer Frank and a veil first used by Crown Princess Margaret of Sweden in 1905.

Their first child, Prince Christian Valdemar Henri John, was born on 15 October 2005; Princess Isabella Henrietta Ingrid Margrethe followed on April 21, 2007.

Almost four years later, Mary and Frederik welcomed twins Princess Josephine Sophia Ivalo Mathilda and Prince Vincent Frederik Little Alexander on 8 January 2011 at Copenhagen’s Rigshospitalet.
