Director James Cameron has acquired the film rights to the book Ghosts of Hiroshima and will soon begin production on the film.
Charles Pellegrino’s book, “Ghosts of Hiroshima,” is in preparation and will be published in a year, on the 80th anniversary of the nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. James Cameron plans to combine the plot of the future bestseller with Pellegrino’s previous book, “Last Train from Hiroshima,” published in 2015.
According to Variety , Cameron plans to begin work on the film as soon as Avatar production allows. The film tells the true story of a Japanese man who survived two atomic bombings during World War II. After the explosion in Hiroshima, he boarded a train to Nagasaki, where another bomb was dropped.
Pellegrino was Cameron’s scientific advisor on Avatar and Titanic, and Cameron had been planning to adapt the story for 20 years. The consequences of nuclear weapons use have already become a motif in Cameron’s work, including the first two Terminator films, in which a nuclear holocaust nearly wipes out humanity as a result of an AI uprising.
