Gastrotour: the most stylish restaurants in Novosibirsk

I went to Novosibirsk without any expectations, following one of the basic rules in relationships, and the city rewarded me for it. Three and a half hours by plane – and now you are already in a place where the silence of the world and the noise of Friday streets merge, where luxury and simplicity coexist, where it is easy to see in the houses of the past, where everything reminds you of her – Russia.

How were these three days in Novosibirsk, where are the best restaurants in the city and most importantly – why you do not need, but want to return to Novosibirsk? About this in our article.

Siberia in Provence style

It was the right decision to start our trip with dinner at Gerardn. Before we talk about the food prepared for us by the brand’s chef Pavel Koledin, a few interesting facts.

“Zherarnya” is called the new gastronomic heart of Novosibirsk. Its founders are restaurateurs Denis Ivanov (you will hear this name more than once) and Gerard Depardieu (yes, the same person). The establishment is located in a historic mansion built in 1905. “Zherarnya restaurant has become another embodiment of the idea of connecting the West and the East, the Trans-Siberian Railway. And my life is all about this, just like Novosibirsk. It is a bridge between Europe and Asia,” says Denis Ivanov.

And now we come to the main thing – the food. Every meal is a small journey. Here you can travel to France, taste sea trout with béarnaise sauce, visit Naples, order spaghetti puttanesca, baked sweet potatoes with yoghurt sauce, Provençal mussels and much more. Be sure to leave room for dessert. My favourite is the Napoleon with apples.

Both work and rest

“A Cup of Coffee” is a modern, trendy place in a minimalist style. This is Denis Ivanov’s first independent project. It was initially launched at Tolmachevo airport, and the cost of the launch was about $ 25 thousand. Everything is quite simple and clear here: the latest types of coffee and favorite breakfasts. The editor is indifferent to coffee, but appreciates fruit teas. In general, if you are looking for a great place to work between walks, welcome!

Different countries at home

Jean Juan Lu is an intercontinental izakaya bar. And now in more detail: translated from Japanese, “izakaya” literally means “to be in a store, to stay or to sit.” Denis Ivanov explains it this way: “Izakaya is a restaurant combined with a bar. For us in Russia, a bar is a place where people go after dinner for a cocktail or a digestive. On the contrary, in an izakaya you can have a great meal.”

By the way, Denis Ivanov opened the first such establishment in Moscow in 2017, and only after that it appeared in his hometown of Novosibirsk. The first thing that catches your eye when you enter Jean Juan Lu is beautiful, stunning girls. For a moment, the feeling that you are in the center of Moscow. But if you dig “deeper”, you will find a unique place, the interior of which reflects the whole atmosphere of Japan.

The restaurant’s cuisine combines the West and the East. Hence the name: “Jean” is Europe, “Juan” is Mexico, Spain and Portugal, “Lu” is Asia. Shrimp buns and pike dumplings are unlikely to leave anyone indifferent.

Taste of Siberian spirit

Restaurant #SiberiaSiberia is the embodiment of the Russian spirit in eight halls with 200 seats. The establishment opened in 2015 and a year later the restaurant was awarded the Palm Branch award. “Everything here is from childhood,” says chef Natalya Krupenya.

Here you will find a vinaigrette with salted milk mushrooms and porcini mushrooms, pies with bird cherry and sorrel, and dumplings for every taste: with pike, with crab and spinach, with sturgeon, cherry and other fillings. Home “Napoleon” deserves special attention. “They crumpled it, mixed it, poured it homemade,” says waiter Vlad.

Separately, of course, we pay attention to the interior: each room is a small story. There is a glass room, a “partition car”, and even native birches. There is a hall dedicated to the Siberian hockey club; sticks with autographs of athletes are hung in it. Everyone will find not only a dish to their liking, but also an atmosphere. Natalya Alexandrovna says that it is important for her that people feel at home.

All Asia Siberia

“Asiatish” is a restaurant that serves all Asian cuisine. “We have a flow of guests because there are so many destinations here. From pho-bo to tom yam,” says chef Vitaly Em. But he calls ramen the distinguishing feature of the place. “We have the only machine in the city that makes noodles,” he explains.

By the way, the restaurant’s ramen chef Oleg Egorov tested more than 20 types of flour to make the noodles perfect – just like in Japan. But the establishment offers not only hot dishes, but also desserts. For my humble taste, the undisputed leader is mango mochi.

Away from the noise

“TBK Lounge” is located almost 30 kilometers from Novosibirsk, in the Akademgorodok district. It is worth visiting not only for the cuisine of chef Daniil Fleischer (an ideal place to escape from the bustle of the city for a while), but also for the area itself.

The Academic Town is considered one of the most important scientific and educational centers in the country, with dozens of research institutes and a university ranked among the best in the world. Make sure to spend a day exploring the area and visit Anastasia Beznosova-Bliznyuk’s Integral Museum-Apartment (I haven’t enjoyed a trip this much in a long time). Dinner at the TBK Lounge was a great end to the evening and the final touch to this trip.

Definitely try the pink tomato gazpacho, ideal for a hot day, the most delicious zucchini pancakes with sour cream and caviar, and the sorrel panna cotta garnished with strawberries. Yes, the prices are not very affordable, but they are definitely worth it. I am definitely adding it to my favorite places.
