Watermelon season is in full swing. We’ve already told you how to choose the right juicy fruit. Now we’re giving you tips to help extend the shelf life of the traditional summer treat.
As it turned out, the optimum temperature for storage is between two and five degrees with a humidity of 70-85%. Experts say that under such conditions, the watermelon will remain fresh for about four months. But cut fruits can not stay in the refrigerator for more than two days at a temperature of three to five degrees.
If you have already broken a slice, do not leave the watermelon in the heat. Bacteria can multiply rapidly and harm your body. Wrap the fruit in plastic wrap and place on a plate. If you want to enjoy the fruit to the fullest, remove foods with strong smells from the refrigerator so that it does not become saturated with unnecessary aromas.
Freezing will also help extend the life of watermelon. Cut the fruit into pieces, removing the rind first. Then place them on a tray or baking sheet and place in the freezer for 12 hours. You can store your treat in containers or bags until next season.
