“You must have the courage to honestly say: “Darling, I don’t want you anymore.” Olga Buzova about taboo sex, polygamy and infidelity

On April 11, the French comedy “Rain of Men”, about a married woman Iris who discovers the world of sensual pleasures, will be released. To understand why her husband’s interest in her has waned and why her children never take her opinion into consideration, she masters an online dating app and thus feels happy again. The voice of the main character was given by singer and TV presenter Olga Buzova.

Attending the premiere of the film, The Fashion Vibes asked Olga Buzova about the most romantic act in life, her attitude towards sexual experiences and the importance of sexual education.

— We are used to seeing you on stage and in reality shows, where you have the opportunity to convey an image through facial expressions, emotions and behavior. The same cannot be said for voice actors whom no one has ever seen. What was the most difficult and interesting thing for you in this process?

I am not afraid of difficulties, on the contrary, obstacles awaken creative greed in me. I didn’t let myself think that I couldn’t succeed because I have real dubbing professionals working with me who will always guide me and tell me how to do better. I had previous experience in voice-over. In 2015, I voiced the main character Kate in the movie “Fashionable Thing”, and in 2021 I spoke with a male voice for the character Commander in the cartoon “100% Wolf”. So I figured out how everything is, plus or minus. It’s also easier for me to talk about work than talking about it. Even though I like chatting, I am a man of action and I find myself in the process.

As it turned out, the task before me was not new, but as a viewer, for example, I had no idea how kissing sounds were made in movies. I know the song I sang, “To the Sound of Kisses.” “We will sleep and wake up” – I saw this with my own eyes. Now do I make these sounds myself and still have fun? (laughing.) I can’t say I’m ready for this! But “hands are afraid, but the tongue does it.” Yes, I know they don’t say that in the original, but that’s exactly how I felt. Although, unlike my heroine Iris, I have never had sex or kissed in the movies, I must admit that I did experience orgasm during the creative process! (laughing.)

— Tell me the most romantic thing you’ve done for your partner and he/she has done for you.

I am a romantic, but many say that such people are frivolous. I disagree, I just love beauty in everything. I keep your love letters. Of course, my teenagers did the craziest things. I remember my husband flew to another city to pick me up. He prepared everything in advance. He told me over the phone that he was going to sleep and I, stupid, believed it! So I give a performance and he comes to meet me with flowers. Moreover, he planned everything in such a way that I didn’t even think about it: He also said that he was tired after training… I generally don’t like when people lie to me, but in such cases you can deceive, otherwise the effect of the surprise will disappear. “Call me even for a day, even for an hour” – this is what I say in the song “Call”, how distances do not matter for love. It is very valuable to see your loved one at least for a moment!

I also like to make romantic surprises: I came up with missions, organized celebrations in restaurants, booked concerts for two. I like to write notes like “find me” and then sit down and think: “What if he can’t find me!” (laughing.) The idea occurred to me that you need to complete one task first, then the second and third. And finally we must meet in our special place. And then I think: “Does he know for me that this is “our” place?” I already have a dress, I lit candles everywhere. He calls and I don’t answer. I sit for an hour or two. Will he find it? To create! But I lost it just as I found it!

I too love beautiful words, but the important thing is that they are not just water. I accept sincere compliments, not when someone says it because it’s the right thing to do. I love with my ears too, but actions are more important.

— The main character of the movie “Rain of Men” discovers the world of sensual pleasures only after 16 years of marriage. What experiment would you never dare to try and why?

The iris was closed, they helped it “open”. She only knew her husband. Like many girls, I dreamed of a single husband. That’s why I don’t accept cheating in a relationship. Like my hero, I first learned about such a format as polyamory, an open relationship. I heard about it but I didn’t understand it. Apparently “poli” means a lot and “amor” means love. Let’s say it’s not close to me. Still, I’m happy that I can learn something new at the age of 38. I read a lot now because my profession obliges me to do so. You need to expand your horizons and vocabulary.

— I don’t want to explain the ending of the movie so as not to arouse curiosity in the audience. So I’ll ask this: Do you think cheating can strengthen a relationship? After all, it is clear that Iris’s husband again sees a woman in her, at the moment when many worthy contenders appear around him.

In my opinion, cheating is unacceptable. The ending of the movie “Rain of Men” remains open: each viewer will understand it in his own way. Did the spouses stay together? Did being cheated on strengthen their relationship? Did their marriage fall apart after Iris’ experiments? For me, cheating means the end of a relationship. I believe that to prevent problems in your marriage, you should always look at the root. You must have the courage to honestly say: “Darling, I don’t want you anymore.” Yes, it hurts, but it is better to discuss and find a solution that will help save the relationship or at least continue to respect each other without making our bed a trash bin.

— Have you ever had fantasies about someone other than your husband?

I am categorical on this issue. This has always been the case. I have never cheated on any of my boyfriends, even in correspondence. I will say more – I had no such desire. It must be painful to want someone else. It is personally difficult for me to imagine myself in such a situation. And when I played Iris, I dived into these emotions with her, experiencing pain and despair. After all, it sucks to feel like a useless woman.

– Is it unnecessary?

Yes, this year I wanted myself to feel a sense of need. For yourself, your family, your team, your people. It’s inspiring to know that you are needed in a good way. My heroine, Iris, was faced with the fact that her daughters did not understand her, that her husband did not even want to kiss her. And she doesn’t love herself. Look how beautiful she is at the end of the movie. Even though Iris had not changed in any way on the outside, she was simply filled with a sense of happiness when other men wanted her. Who is to blame for this? A man who does not pay attention to his woman. Iris does it all: work, housework and cooking.

– Don’t girls like it when other men look at them, not just their husbands? Or do we, as women, only need the attention of others when we experience a lack of love and affection from the person we love?

Definitely! Believe me, gentlemen, we will never have a thorn in our tongue. We will never tire of telling you when your attention is lacking. All the problems stem from exactly this. A woman wants to be desired and loved. Therefore, we need to watch the movie not to bathe in the rain of men or under rainy men, but to stop looking for someone on the sidelines and understand that betrayal can be prevented. Ask yourself questions that concern both of you in the relationship.

This story is generally about betrayal. You should always talk. Don’t remain silent about problems. Yes, it is not always easy to find words, but it is better not to remain silent and not torment yourself with guesses. Otherwise, it turns out that you were worried about one thing but your problem is something else entirely. This is exactly what our program “This is Normal” is about. Even in our own country, we communicate very little. Everyone comes in after work and sits on the phone. You need to get out of the house and communicate with other people. Even my friends and I set a rule when we meet: First we take photos together, then we put our phones away, especially at dinner. I get so angry when people call me right now.

— Why do you think it is not customary to talk about sex in Russia (unlike France or the USA)?

And that’s a shame, by the way. We need to talk about this. Sexuality education should be taught as a separate lesson in schools. Nobody taught us how to build relationships correctly. We do everything on a whim. Teachers at school essentially replace parents. And most of the time, not-so-good examples settle in the child’s subconscious. I remember guys learning about sex from magazines and some tapes they got from adults. I no longer know where schoolchildren get this information. It is necessary to educate young people about the aesthetics of sexual life. Any intimate relationships must be protected. It is important that young men and women in schools are told how to protect themselves properly. And the main thing is to say that everything should happen according to mutual desire. Thus, young people are not afraid to express what they like and dislike. This will help prevent problems such as bullying, bullying and violence. After all, this is our life. I have a geography teacher diploma and I will say this: If I were to enter this profession, I would definitely discuss important issues related to relationships with my students.
