A group of Australian women have described the high-paying dream careers they currently find themselves in, from clinical psychologists to teachers and criminal defense lawyers.
But one career path that stood out above all others was a railroad signaling engineer with an average of $130,000-180,000 a year and an average starting salary of $90,000.
This role includes the design of systems used to control rail traffic, including trackside equipment, computer networks and security devices; requires a relevant engineering degree and several years of experience in the rail industry.
The conversation started when a clever Australian woman asked for “dream roles that pay well” in the “She’s On The Money” Facebook group.

One woman said she likes working in railroad engineering, even though it’s a typical male industry.
‘I’m a railway signaling engineer and I’m fine! The work is challenging but rewarding! My salary as a freshman is pretty decent, but I know over time it will be more than enough. I love the company (it was a dream since I was young) and it’s very supportive,” he said.
‘An added bonus is that they pay me to get my engineering degree. I read Bach from Sus. systems engineering, but most people have studied electrical or mechanical engineering.
Another adds: ‘I am an engineer and work in the railways. Sometimes I work overtime to be rewarded for the extra work/hours I have to do.’
One woman worked as a sign maintenance technician and received only positive feedback on her career path.
I’m also on alert in ‘VIC’ but I love it as SMT and love love! I have nothing bad to say about my position, we have a wide range of different people in our positions and I love every bit of them.
Others claimed to work as occupational therapists, psychologists, librarians or teaching assistants.
“I gave up a top-paying higher education job to pursue a career in marketing, and I couldn’t be happier. It was a huge cut in my salary at first (about $20,000), but working at a company I love on tasks that I found mentally stimulating and fun was well worth it!’ said another woman.

Surgeons in Australia top the list of highest paid workers in the country, with an average salary of $390,000, according to tax returns for 14 million people filed by the Australian tax office.
Anesthesiologists closely monitor surgeons, who average $386,000 per year, and internists, who make $304,000 per year.
Financial traders earn an average of $275,000 per year, while psychiatrists make $235,000 per year.
