President Joe Biden’s new press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, made a fashion mistake while posing at the White House in a dress designed by Ivanka Trump.

On May 13, the internet floundered when 47-year-old Jean-Pierre, who was the White House press secretary after Jen Psaki’s departure, saw one of Ivanka’s dresses dangling.

“Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has a lovely style,” wrote Megha Bhattacharya, White House Press Assistant, by posting a photo of Jean-Pierre in a suit on Twitter on Sunday as she celebrates her new assignment.

But when someone said that Jean-Pierre was wearing the Ivanka Trump design, many social media users amused with the design.

Born to a Haitian family on the French island of Martinique, but moved to New York at the age of five, Jean-Pierre made history when he became the first black and openly LGBTQ person to become a member of the press.

He previously served as a political analyst for NBC News and MSNBC, a lecturer at Columbia University, and a senior advisor and spokesperson for MoveOn.org.

He was the regional policy director for the White House Office of Political Affairs during the first term of the Obama administration.

He was hired as Chief of Staff during Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign in 2020, before becoming the White House Deputy Press Secretary in 2021. She was appointed White House Press Officer in May.

“I want to say a few words about how honored I am to be here with you all today,” Jean-Pierre said at the start of his first briefing after assuming the new role last week.

“Of course I am aware that my presence on this stage represents some firsts.

“I am a black, gay immigrant woman, the first of three to hold this position.

“I wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for the generations that have crossed barriers before me. I’m leaning on your shoulders.
