What to watch: 10 new Russian TV shows you shouldn’t miss

Following the fifth Pilot series festival in Ivanovo, we share the main design discoveries that are definitely worth your attention. Just waiting for the premiere!

“mammoths”

The series by Ivan Sonin, who stole perhaps all the hearts of the audience, including the heart of your humble film editor. This is the story of retired Nikolai Nikolayevich (Yuri Stoyanov), a victim of swindlers who, after selling his apartment, moves in with his daughter in New Moscow for a while and then accidentally pretends to be a bank employee. Then a desperate retiree, barely even using his smartphone, decides to deal with cybercriminals alone and takes his 15-year-old granddaughter (Elizaveta Ishchenko) as a partner. A warm and gentle comedy, after which you will definitely want to call your loved one.

“Ira”

A project by Alim Beschokov and Ingrid Olerinskaya, dear friend of our editorial office and the heroine of the project “Titers”, in which almost every girl can get acquainted. The main character is a 30-year-old rebellious woman who does not know the rules and foundations of modern society, openly talks about everything that worries her. Mortgages, a night run to the fridge, a fleeting love – Ira will have ten episodes to figure everything out and get things in order in her own life.

“cyber daddy”

“cyber daddy”

Alexander Robak and Yulia Peresild in Vladimir Bolgov’s comedy about a 50-year-old welder with a unique eye who agrees to join a young esports team to improve relations with his son. Unexpectedly, an elderly player wins a marksman’s tournament and becomes the Network’s local star. But for team members, he’s not just a “meme” uncle, he’s a true mentor, friend, and cyber-dad.

“Chef”

“Chef”

We do not recommend watching on an empty stomach! Kai (Denis Prytkov) has dreamed of becoming a chef since childhood and is now a celebrity chef at a Michelin-starred restaurant. And our main character is a principled perfectionist who one day argues with a restaurant visitor who turns out to be an influential person. As a result, the star chef is fired, not hired by other good establishments in the city, and left to cook shawarma in the suburbs.

“librarian”

The opening sequence of “Pilot” is a project by Ivan Tverdokhlebov (who, by the way, is also the hero of “Our Loans”) with Nikita Efremov in the lead role, based on the cult novel by Mikhail Elizarov. This is the story of the hapless actor Alexei Vyazintsev, who learned that his father was murdered under mysterious circumstances and went to his hometown to sell the apartment that remained there. True, he is instead drawn into a series of dangerous events due to … magical books that can give their readers superpowers.

“Hot Tour”

“Hot Tour”

A comedy turned drama starring Alexander Robak and Timofey Tribuntsev and directed by Dmitry Tyurin. Two completely different fathers – a businessman and a geology professor – are also on vacation in Mexico, where their daughter has suddenly disappeared. That same night, a dead man is found on the shore where the girls were last seen together, and the desperate fathers launch an independent investigation despite their expulsion from the country due to the scandal. Then they travel to Guatemala and illegally return from the jungle to Mexico as they engage in the drug cartel’s showdown.

“I will look”

“I will look”

Drama by Alexei Ivanov, which tells how guilt can make a person’s life hell for years and in search of a “hay” that will save you from this nightmare. Alena (it is no coincidence that we chose Daria Vereshchagina, who, at the opening of the festival, won her unspoken status as the heroine of our “Titters”), feels guilty every day for an act with terrible consequences. It seems that everyone and everything blames him for what happened. But she mostly does this herself and therefore easily destroys both her own life and the lives of those she loves, and she believes that the only creature in the world who loves her no matter what is her dog. But one day he disappears and the main character goes out in search and at the same time goes out completely. And she accidentally finds a ghostly opportunity to correct her mistake and receive a long-awaited pardon.

“About this”

“About this”

After eight years of study at the St. Petersburg Medical University, Mitya (Denis Vlasenko) returns to his native village of Ozernoye, where they are waiting for him with pride and impatience – after all, the funds allocated for his studies have been spent, and a young doctor in the local hospital is also badly needed. But the main character, unfortunately, is not a surgeon, dentist or even a urologist, but … a sexologist. Conservatives don’t understand this, they call the newly made doctor “pussy doctor”, his own father threatens to take his word back, but he doesn’t give up. Because he knows how much help is needed by people who are ignorant about sexuality, who have made “it” a taboo for generations, and who live in a world of myths, superstitions and prejudices.

macron

macron

No, this series by Boris Dergachev is not about politics, but about ageism in personal relationships, first man decisions when he is just over 20, and new aspects of life at 45. The main character of the series, 23-year-old Vova (Kuzma Saprykin), comes to the village from Moscow with my girlfriend for my mother’s birthday. Everything is very serious for them, but there is something but … Vova’s girlfriend (Marina Alexandrova) is the same age as her parents, 45 years old. Apparently, the family has its own Emmanuel Macron, which causes a strong negative reaction and misunderstanding from conservative relatives.

“Kill Rita”

Crime drama comedy by Maria Agranovich, starring Evgenia Borzykh, Artem Bystroy and Anna Slyu. This is a story about how a fragile-looking chemistry teacher was left unemployed because of her ties to a student. But thanks to his skills, he manages to make easy money by cleaning up the cabin that turned out to be a crime scene, and finds himself at the epicenter of local thugs’ criminal showdowns. However, our hero is not so simple either – all this time he lived in secret with someone else’s passport, and a few years ago he had to flee from his hometown of St. Petersburg to a seaside town to save his life.
