Alia said: “When I first came out as gay it was pretty easy with my parents. Regarding the transition, my grandfather agreed, but did not understand, and as my transition progressed, my mother began to understand my feelings better.”
The 27-year-old says she doesn’t regret her decision to have surgery or take hormones.
She added: “It was a significant moment in my life, from discovering myself to the person I am today.
“My family was neutral in their feelings. They knew I was strong enough to see myself again on this unknown journey, and they were proud of me for being honest with myself.

Alia has been incredibly open about her journey and hopes to help others grapple with their own identities.
“I feel like people who don’t understand choose to do this out of ignorance and lack of empathy,” he said.
“Decisions are difficult no matter what, and I hope we can all continue to clearly understand why instead of reflecting on our own insecurities and our own judgment.
