The annual Brazilian Carnival festivities kicked off on Friday February 17, drawing crowds to the streets to celebrate. The Brazilian government has said that more than 46 million people will participate this year. The celebration, which lasts until Feb. 22, marks the days of excess before Lent, a time when Catholics fast and reflect.

Carnival is a big deal for Brazil. Rio’s tourism agency has estimated that the festival will generate $1 billion in revenue, mostly for businesses such as bars and hotels.

While the tradition started in Brazil, countries around the world are now celebrating. Rihanna she put on a very sexy show during the 2015 Barbados celebrations. She paired with a glittery bikini with feathered wings for a truly angelic look.
