Liev Schreiber stars as a homicide detective in the new Apple TV thriller series Nocturne, which released its official trailer on Tuesday, September 29.
The platform will premiere the ten-episode drama globally on October 30, 2026, launching with its first two episodes. Subsequent episodes will follow weekly until the season finale arrives on December 25, 2026.
Nocturne is adapted from the internationally bestselling crime novel The Sandman, written by the Swedish author duo who publish under the pseudonym Lars Kepler. The book forms part of a celebrated crime novel series following inspector Joona Linna, which has sold millions of copies worldwide and established the husband-and-wife writing team of Alexander Ahndoril and Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril among Scandinavia's most prominent thriller authors.
Release schedule and production team
Director Tim Van Patten helmed the first two episodes of the series. The project is produced by A+E Studios and Range Studios alongside an extensive team of executive producers. Van Patten is widely recognized for his directorial work on acclaimed television dramas, including flagship series for HBO such as The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, and Game of Thrones.
Schreiber, an American actor well known for playing Wolverine's rival Victor Creed in the 2009 feature film X-Men Origins: Wolverine, leads the cast as former soldier Jonah Lynn. Seeking a quiet life after years spent navigating the harsh streets of Philadelphia, Lynn relocates to a small town in western Pennsylvania to work as a homicide detective.
Storyline and ensemble cast
His search for peace proves short-lived when a cunning serial killer named Jurek Walter launches an attack against the town and Lynn's family. As Walter terrorizes the community, Lynn finds himself forced to take extreme measures to protect those he loves.
The storyline centers on how far Lynn is willing to go when a desperate search for Walter's latest missing victim drives him to send his adopted daughter into direct confrontation with the killer. Agent Saga Bauer, who serves with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, is sent to face Walter.
The series features an ensemble cast alongside Schreiber. Zazie Beetz, known for her roles in Atlanta and Joker, and Lauren Graham, recognized for her work in Gilmore Girls, head the supporting cast. They are joined by Bill Camp, Rory Culkin, Chrissy Metz, Poorna Jagannathan, and Gary Carr.
