Leon Gillespie, 26, has been fined £200 after climbing onto the roof of Ysbyty Glan Clwyd hospital in St Asaph, Denbighshire, dressed as the Grim Reaper.

Gillespie, of Deganwy, wore a black hooded costume and stood overlooking the hospital entrance while brandishing a long blade, shocking visitors. His outfit was also described as resembling a "crow" rather than the figure of death.

Four police cars and firefighters were called to the scene after Gillespie remained on the roof for 50 minutes on Saturday. No reason was given for his behaviour.

Guilty plea and other offences

Gillespie pleaded guilty before Llandudno magistrates. He also admitted stealing £30 to £40 worth of cat food and cat litter from Pets at Home in Llandudno on March 26, and food and drink from Sainsbury's in Llandudno on May 28.

Magistrates ordered him to pay £50 in compensation, £100 in fines, and £100 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.

A spokesman for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board said: "The health board has previously stated it has a zero tolerance approach to abuse, aggression or nuisance within its hospital sites."
