Leighton Meester will star alongside Jared Padalecki in Guarding Stars, a new Netflix romantic comedy feature film scheduled to premiere on November 18, 2026.
Meester plays Hannah Brooks, a professional protection agent hired to safeguard charismatic action movie star Jack Stapleton, played by Padalecki, during the Christmas holiday season.
The project reverses the classic bodyguard trope seen in films such as the 1992 thriller The Bodyguard starring Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston, as well as the Prime Video release Enfrentados: Marfil. To prevent Stapleton's family from learning about a credible threat against his life, Brooks must pose as his girlfriend, a fake relationship that gradually gives way to genuine romantic feelings.
Plot details and novel adaptation
The screenplay adapts the 2022 novel The Bodyguard written by author Katherine Center. Netflix, along with fans and readers, selected the title Guarding Stars to distinguish the romantic comedy from earlier cinematic releases. In Spain, the feature will be released under the title Guardaespaldas por Navidad.
The production marks a significant career milestone for Padalecki, representing his return to live-action feature films after several years spent focusing primarily on television projects.
