Iran: the arrest of actress Taraneh Alidoosti denounced by the world of cinema

She is one of the best known faces of Iranian cinema internationally and like hundreds of Iranian men and women already, she was arrested on December 17 by the police. Actress Taraneh Alidoosti, outstanding in Leila and her brothers of Saeed Roustaee, was placed in detention, a few days after the complaint the death sentences of several protesters.

In November, in particular, she posted a photo of herself without a veil on her Instagram account with a message from his support for the protests since the death of Mahsa Amini, a young Kurdish woman arrested and killed by the morality police in September 2022. She had made the alleged choice not to leave Iran and continue to openly denounce the repression.

According to director Samia Mirshamsi, Taraneh Alidoosti’s house was raided.

In early December, the actress wrote these words on her Instagram account: “His name was Mohsen Shekari. Any international organization that observes this massacre and does nothing is a disgrace to humanity. » Mohsen Shekari, 23, is the first prisoner of the regime to be executed on December 8, 2022 for his participation in the protests. A few days later, on December 12, Majidreza Rahnavard, also 23, was publicly executed.

This week, actress Golshifteh Farahani posted a photo of her and Taraneh Alidoosti: “This photo was taken in July 2008 shortly before leaving Iran for good. That was the last time I saw her. »

The Cannes Film Festival has shown its support and is calling for his release. An open letter signed by more than 400 film personalities has been published to show solidarity and support for the actress in the face of the regime.
